lapband over bypass ??
I had the lapband in Nov 2006. I had a lot of issues with it (never feeling restricted, only lost 40 lbs in that time frame, couldn't eat anything healthy). In Feb 2009 I had the lapband removed and had gastric bypass. Had an endoscopy yesterday that shows that my stomach pouch has stretched back out to the size of about 1/2 a soda can. My doctor (Dr Holover - from NY Bariatric Group) suggests putting the lapband in over the bypass. I'm nervous b/c of all the problems I had with it the first time around.
Anyone out there have the BOB with good results?
I'm open to any all suggestions, comments, thoughts ......
Thanks,
Madelin

I had a bypass in April 08 and lost 100lb then it just seemed to stop after approx 9/12 months. Luckly I never put on any weight for about 2 years and just stayed the same (234lb). Over the last 6/9 months the weight has started to creep back on again. Scared that I would end up where I started (332lb) I have under gone a band surgery on 11th of this month. My doctor says its not something that he does very often but has high hopes that banded the bypass will help me lose most of the rest of the weight I want to lose. (Want to be about 112lb as im only 4'10")
I know this probably doesn't help you right now but Im happy to keep you posted

Thank you Gaynor. I appreciate any response at all as every bit of information helps!
I lost 39 lbs on the original lapband. I lost 83 with the bypass. For about 1 year I maintained at like 220, but now I'm back up to 240 and I am petrified of the weight coming back on. I realized that I could way more than I should be able to with the bypass so I went to the doc and found out my pouch had stretched out. My goal is 150 (I'm 5' 5"0)
I am seriously considering the lapband again so I'm looking for anything anyone can give me
Definitely keep me posted as I won't have the surgery until at least Jan 2012.
Thanks!
Madelin

People do get BOB, with variable results. But I am not sure why you and your doc think the band would work for you when it didn't work first time round.
This might sound really harsh, but if two wls haven't helped, might counselling be an option rather than a third major op?

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Hi Kate,
Yes, I feel the same way and that is my major concern with going for a 3rd surgery. When my doc suggested it to me yesterday I expressed my concerns about that to him (this was after my endoscopy yesterday). I have consultation meeting with him on 11/2/11 to discuss it more.
And believe me, I have gone to councelling and a nutritionists and have tried so many other venues that surgery is my last resort. It definitely not something I am jumping into lightly.
Thanks,
Madelin

My question is WHY COULDN'T YOU EAT ANYTHING HEALTHY? bariatric surgery should be a life changing desicion, have u made the correct choice? the stomach is a muscle with time it will stretch back to its normal size. thats the reason why some people are gaining the weight again. and as u experience the band is there to restrict u from over eating but its not there to tell u not to eat a cheese burger :? I dont think it will help u at all and sorry for being so real, u will just continue to make the same mistakes and maybe putting ur life at risk!!!!
good luck to u
good luck to u
I don't mind you being real .... however I did not say I CHOSE not to eat healthy. I wasn't (and I'm still not) going around shoving cheeseburgers down my throat.
Are my choices 100 % correct 100 % of the time, of course not. No one's are. However, I am physically able to eat more than I should be. I have very limited restriction at this point. Even too much of the healthy stuff is not a good thing.
Thanks for responding though, I do appreciate it.
