Not happy with band

Hi I was banded 15 months ago and I have only lost 6kg. I am very frustrated with this. The Dr wont give me anymore fill because I don't get hungry. I don't feel I have much restriction. I'm eating small amounts of food I am exercising nearly everyday for 30-40 mins. I just don't know what s going on. I am thinking of getting a sleeve but I would be really worried that it might not work too.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Cheers Sharon

Unless you have a medical problem of some sort, if you eat small amounts of well chosen food, you lose weight. So I have to wonder if you are making the right food choices. And if you are not hungry, the band is working!

Perhaps a visit to a dietician might help.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I had my surgery February 16, 2011 and have lost 35lbs, I get so discouraged that it is not more and sometimes wish I would have gotten the sleeve,,,  I need to cut back on carbs and excersise more.  Good luck to you.

Calories in, and calories out.

The surgery doesn't change that formula, it's simply a tool to keep us accountable on the calories in side.

Maybe we need a band on our couch to squeeze us out into some exercise.

The truth is, though, that we focus so much attention on the band in our gut, but we really need a band up in the brain to restrict the stinking thinking that leads us to bad food and activity choices.

That is where weight is gained or lost.

Sharon,

If you're not losing while eating and exercising the way you are, I don't think the sleeve will make any difference. Maybe a WLS procedure with a malabsorption feature, such as gastric bypass or duodenal switch, would help.

I have to wonder if you're not losing because of some medical issue, like a slow thryoid or medications that affect weight.

If I were in your situation and my doctor refused to give me any more fills, I'd be asking him, "So what else can we do to get my weight loss going?"

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that you have not lost a lot of weight. I had surgery almost a month ago and I am worried about my wieghtloss too I have only lost 5 pounds. I know there is a small percentage of people this surgery doesn't work for. I totally understand your frustration and fear. Thats why a lot of us are here. All you and I can do is make sure that our food choices are the right ones and exersice. If you are doing these things then you may want to have your thyroid checked and see if you have insulin resistance or anyother medical issue that can be preventing your weightloss.
Hang in there and you will figure out what youneed to do.

Hi I was banded about 7 months ago and I'm very disappointed as well I've only lost about 15 pounds and now gain five back.  I can hardly eat I've changed my diet drastically as far as not eating bread I can not eat any meat at all I'll throw it up.  I can only eat protien shakes oatmeal and soups.  I work out at least four times a week at least 1 to 2 hours.  I wish I would of gotten the gastric sleeve as well this is way to slow.  I've had my blood tested as far as thyroid everything was fine.  I feel your pain.  Keep working it helps with the frustration of this band.  I would not recommend this to anyone it is horrible.

Best of luck

Hi Valerie,

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I also had the horrible situation of not being able to eat anything solid. Have you been checked for banding position at all? If the band is incorrectly placed, it can make a world of difference.

 Hi

Yes I've been checked out it seems find I'm going for another fill soon I'll have it looked at.  I just didint realize it took this long to lose weight I'm very frustrated and disappointed thats why I want to have it removed someday.  I unfornately had to have done in Mexico so it makes it real easy to get fills I had no ideal that it would require so many fills I only needed to lose 20 pounds.  Anyhow I glad it works for some people but I like to get it out there to inform others that it doesnt work for all.

I had mine removed about 6 years ago. I did lose weight, but only because I couldn't eat solid foods at ALL.

You're not alone in your disappointment and frustration, believe me.

It's my opinion that the ones for whom the band works are very fortunate. There are a lot of us who found out the hard way that it is not all it's purported to be.

Good luck to you. I wish you the best.
