Friends Reactions to Weight Loss

Need to vent...So I had my cousin's wedding this weekend and saw some of my old so-called "best friends" from high school, all of whom I was extremely close with up to 3 years ago when we had a falling out and our close-knit group kind of went their own way. I haven't seen most of them in over a year which was when I was at my heaviest before I lost my weight (76 lbs so far!). So I gotta say, I was a little excited to see how they react towards me because they always were fit and the good looking girls/guys and unfortunately the type to judge people by appearances. The first girl I saw approached me, hugged me and said "Wow its so nice to see you...you look different...did you do something to your teeth?" Ummmm....what?!?! I was thinking "I LOST 76 LBS WENT FROM A 3X TO AN XL AND YOU NOTICED THAT I GOT THE GAP CLOSED IN MY TEETH???". Out of 10 friends, only 1 made a comment about my weight loss all night. I had so many other people (family and friends) approach me and tell me how good I looked, so I felt better. I don't know why I expected different from them, they are the type of people to make fun of and talk about everyone. I posted before and after photos below. No worries, I don't need people like that to validate the fact that I look and feel good about myself, for the first time in 33 years!!

They sound like a very shallow bunch of people and you are better off without them. People like that only notice themselves so no they wouldn't notice a thing about you. You are looking great and hopefully improving your life so leave the past behind and build yourself some real true friendships with people who don't judge what you look like but who you are! Keep working that band and they won't even know who you are next time they see you! Just think what fun you can have with that.

My reaction to this is that you were always gorgeous. Now you're gorgeous and healthier, with a better self concept. Their loss.  Certainly not yours:)

I have gotton the same thing done to me.. People I work with that talk about everyones weight.never comment to me about my weight loss of 50 lbs. Only a few that I see there will say nice kind words of how great I look. My family members they never say a word. Only when I was heavy that I should do something..I'm pleased with myself and OH and really don't need the ones that I know are jealous. I don't need approval from anyone.  You look fantastic and keep up the great job..You are beautiful.

I agree that you have always been beautiful, and now you are becoming a healthier and happier version of that beautiful woman. They are obviously caught up in their own hype to give an encouragement to someone that is supposed to be their friend. You have done something amazing and I can tell from your post that you are someone who has a heart for others and I can't understand why a beautiful woman such as yourself would want to hang out with people who are so obviously ugly. They may have outward beauty, but like Dorian Gray, the inside is rotten. Be happy and know you are well shod of bad people. Congratulations and I wish you all the best on your journey.

Yes honey, there will always be haters in the building. Just use their negativity to keep your momentum going! Proud of ya for all you've done so far because its not easy.

Left the band and rocking with RNY.
