Sugar Substitutes

I know we have discussed this before; but, is anyone totally off sugar substitutes?

And if you are not using substitutes, how did you stop using them? (I know just stop) Not so easy.

I am trying but not doing a very good job.

I think Crystal Lite makes me not lose weight. Just my opinion.

I prefer to have a small amount of sugar rather than a larger amount of chemicals. So, for example, I buy child sized mini- yogurts which have no artificial additives rather than a larger "light" normal yogurt.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Hi Kate
Funny that you should post.  I was reading past threads about sugar substiute and saw that you posted in 2009 that Truvia had not been approved in England yet.  Has it been approved yet?.

I am beginning to side with you on this one.  At least using a little bit of sugar, I know what I am getting.

It is just hard to get off the substitutes.  They make life a little easier; but, I don't know about the long term results.

I kinda do a mixture of real and substitute cause in my family sugar was evil! I now know that the subs aren't that great either so I do some of each, however I'm not a big sweets eater so it's not a real big issue for me. Cheese however is a whole other story!

I USED to be addicted to artificial sweeteners but wanted to get away from all the chemicals.
I stopped cold turkey and only then realized that it was bothering my stomach and causing a lot of gas.
If I am making a recipe that calls for sugar, if possible, I just use a lot less than it calls for. Most of the time no one even notices the difference.
