Source of pain is discovered!

For a while I have been having upper abdominal pain off and on.   Lately it has been focused in the upper right quadrant, right under my ribs.  My bariatric surgeon sent me for an esophagram and an abdominal ultrasound.  My band is fine, but I have gallstones and will be having my gallbladder removed as soon as they can fit me into the surgical schedule.  I was high risk for gallstones because I am  over 40, female, obese, lost a good amount of weight, take cholesterol lowering meds.  Not surprised,  but would rather have a breast lift if I was going to have surgery .

Welcome to the club of the 4 F's...fat, fertile, 40's, female!  That's how my Dr. describe the common sufferer of Gallstones.  I'm glad you're having it romoved a.s.a.p.  I waited for 6 years after I was first diagnosed and ended up having an emergency surgery to remove the rotten thing!

You will feel so much better!

Best~
Lisa

I'm also a member of the 4F club and yep just get the danged thing out. As surgeries go it's not a big deal and I healed up really quickly. Wishing the same to you, quick recovery and easy peasy surgery!!!

Another 4F member here! I just finally had mine out 4 weeks ago after putting it off for years as well. I wish I had done it sooner because I felt so much better not being sick all the time.
I hope you get scheduled soon and feel better!

Revision on 08/16/12
Hmmm...maybe your surgeon could sneak a breast lift past your insurance company with clever procedure coding?

I just had gallbladder taken out in August it was harder recovery for me than my lap band I used my meds this time around.

I ended up in the emergency room the pain was so bad and they admitted me that same night and took it out the next day. I had a few attacks previously then when I would go for tests they said everything was fine..

When the finally took it out they said it was FULL of stones..

Same here, Emergency room on Saturday. they kept me till Thurs for the Pancreatitis to go away and then under the knife. I forgot to walk, walk, walk and had more pain than with the band op..
Nobody mentioned it, why did I think it was different ?

Another 4F here. Mine was out in March. I hope yours is a fast and speedy recovery. Maybe the Surgeon could say since the girls were in the way for the surgery they had to do a lift? Good luck! K

Surgery is scheduled, tentatively for Tuesday, 18th.  I meet with my surgeon (same surgeon who did my band and hiatal hernia repair) on Monday for pre-op consult and if all is well, we will proceed on Tuesday.

Regarding the 4 F's, I only fit the fat category, lol.  I am native american, almost 62, not even close to fertile!

Wish me luck!  I just hope I don't get that damn rash I got last time from the Benzoin adhesive they used.  That was miserable!
