Hi everyone,

I am 2.5 yrs out and have become a serious sugar addict.  It started with one or two cookies because they were easy.  I now eat about one bag of cookies a night!  I'm not gaining because that's all I'll eat.  We want to have another baby, but I need to be healthy.  Any suggestions on how to break this horrible addiction?  Also,  I can eat protein and healthier choices.  My band is not too tight.  I just choose the sugar.

When you figure out this sugar addiction thing let me know....I can't help it.  I want cookies and cakes all of the time!!!  I try to have just one or two like a normal person and that doesn't work.  I will not buy any to bring into my house.  If I really want a cookie or treat I will go to the bakery section of my grocery store and buy one or two.  I can't bring in a whole package because like you they will be gone in a day!!!

It's crazy!  I "buy them for my son."  I know, he doesn't need them either.  He will eat just one.  But, deep down I know I will end up eating them.   Maybe I'll do plateau busters just to get it out of my system.  I think I have to go cold turkey.  Food has always been my drug of choice.  Never had issues or concerns with any other addictive substances.

You know when I had to quit smoking the only way I could look at it was as the addiction it was! I had to take it one day at a time, I had to talk myself down several times a day and I just really had to sweat out the creepy crawly nerves. I think sugar is the same way we have to look at it as a real addiction because it is! Like any addiction you have to stay away from the substance especially the first week or so until the physical part of the addiction gets better. After that it is more a matter of giving yourself a good "come to Jesus talk down" and make sure you just keep sayin' NO! It's not easy we all know that so keep comin' here for help, we've all been there usually more than once!

Hi
I have found that sugar addiction takes more like 3 weeks to completely get the chemical out of your body so the craving stops and with it the head obsession.  Even a tiny bit and I am off and running.  I try to think of it not as "love" or a "treat" but to think of it as it is for me  "a drug like heroine"   I have worked hard to get to the point that I can look at everything that has this drug in it and just say no---I CAN'T HAVE IT.

Best wishes---you can do it---I use OA as a support group because they totally get that is is addiction and sugar is a drug.

Hi-

I have a horrible problem with sugar too. Most sugar items go through our bands without a problem and don't fill it up. I got my band almost 5 years ago and lost 92 pounds, unfortunately, with giving back into that alful drug (sugar) I have gained all but about 30 pounds of my weight back. On top of that, I have now been diagnoed as having type 2 diabetes. I am so upset with myself. So I am!! with you in the battle to get that sugar out of my system. We can do this

Well, blew it for the day.  Someone brought Famous Amos cookies.  It is really hard to sustain for sweets.  I wish I could enjoy them in moderation.  I know it shouldn't be about deprevation, but when I eat sweets I easily add 500+ calories to my day.  And, there's absolutely no nutritional benefit.
