Not so pleasant fill appt.

So there I am sitting there with my head propped up while the doctor is poking around trying to find my port. apparatly it had slightly shifted... after numerous attempts and me about to say "forget it... we'll try again another day" he gets it in.. Thank goodness!

And this time they didnt have any of the iv type needles so I have this big ol' needle sticking out of my belly, while I stand up to get my barium/xray.

Well I am usually a tough cookie when it comes to needles.. not this time. I have to ask to sit down because I am feeling woozie.. after a little while laying there (still with needle sticking out of my belly) I am ready to stand and try again.

I drink the barium, we confirm I am at a good fill.. he removes the needle.. applies bandaid.. and then I start to feel woozie again.. "uh oh doc... I need to sit down again"!!

So thats when I completely faint.. while standing in front of the xray machine.. and wake up to the doc with a complete bear hug (face practically burried in my breasts) carrying me to a chair while in the most reassuring way repeating "dont worry.. I gotcha.. I gotcha.. dont worry, youre okay"... awwwww....

I am a whole lotta woman... and the doc was slim and petite.. yet still was soo caring and never let me touch the floor.

Note to self... If they dont have the iv needles.. I am rescheduling! And mad props to my doc for being ready to catch me.

On a Good note... I lost 16 lbs since my last visit 8 weeks ago! Yay me, and I still love my doc even tho he had a hard time locating my port with the needle.

if not mistaken, the only needle to be used for fills is a huber one, not sure what you mean by the 'iv type'.

& yes, mad props for your dr catching you!!

I agree, a "Huber Needle" with a stop**** and syringe attached is the only thing I've ever seen used.  The doctor really shouldn't poke around until he feels the port.

I'm glad  you made it out of there alive!

the needles used in past from my doc.. was a needle type thing and then had an iv type end where if they needed to adjust the fluid while in front of the exray then just insert the needle in the iv and add or decrease the fluid from there. I like that instead of a true needle/syringe. LOL

although I never looked that closely at the iv one it could be "rubber" like you say.. who knows.. when i stand its hidden by my bodacious (sp?)boobs. LOL
