Thank you! I actually feel the port when I touch my stomach, but I feel it as well when I move a certain way, which I quess is scar tissue. The nurse at my doctors office told me I will probably feel it for about 6 more weeks until the swelling goes down, but I might still feel it here or there for years, but that it wouldn't hurt. Just something to get use to.

Hi Heightzy,

I had the left shoulder pain for years and still have it from damage my band caused. IF it doesn't go away in a week or two, make sure you let your doctor know about it because the band could be in a position that is irritating your diaphragm. Well meaning folks told me repeatedly that it was gas pains I was experiencing, but in reality, my band was placed in a position that was causing severe damage to my diaphragm.  I don't tell you this to scare you, but only so you have the information, if you should need it.

In the meantime, try using a ho****er bottle or heating pad right under your ribcage.  Sometimes it helps "loosen" up the nerves enough to alleviate the pain. The cold of the milk might be causing your diaphragm to get irritated, as well. Whenever I would drink anything cold, the pain became very severe.

It is very normal to have the gas pains this soon after laparoscopic abdominal surgery, so hang in there... walk and burp!

I am sorry to hear that has happened to you. Kuddos to you for being able to tell your story to help others! That is why I thought the forums may be helpful to me. How long did you have the band?
I don't believe 100% that it is just gas, but for now I will just do what they tell me. I will call my doctor back next week if this problem persist for sure!

I have wanted to burb for a week now! I get the sensation, but, everytime I try, the pain just gets worse and nothing comes out.. :(

Thanks for the info!

Hi Heightzy,

The food cravings from the smell of food is normal.  Not really wanting to eat or drink might be, especially if you might still be having gas pain.

You should call your doctor about the shoulder pain, but definitely do the walking!  I found the gas pain worse than the surgery pain!  walking REALLY helps!  Also, try GasX chewables or strips and be sure you drink lots of water in sips.

Soreness in the port IS normal and will go away after a little time.  If not, also do call your doctor and ask!

You are doing fine!
