what happened??
Hi All,
today I had most of the day stomach ache- it didn't hurt if I was crawled up (like in an embyo-position), but the moment I stretched it quite hurt. Now I was just stroking over my belly and where my port is something (most probably the port) kind of sticks out. I could never feel it, neither could my partner, but he felt it now too. What happened? Anybody knows? Do I need to be worried? I have no problems with reflux, eating, etc etc- it was just a stomach ache and now something sticking out. I am a little worried. The day after tomorrow I have a doc's appointment. Any advise? Evelyn

Hmmm. Is the pain in your stomach or around the port? Normally when you lose a significant amount of weight your port will be closer to the surface and you will definately feel it more than before but it would be a gradual change not sudded and certainly shouldn't be painful. Aside from pulling your port away from the muscle wall to whichi it's stitched I can't imagine what happened. Were you straining for execising and maybe pulled the port away from the muscle?
The only time I had stomach pain that made me want to curl into a fetal position it was my gall bladder. Gall stones are really common with obesity. Do you still have your GB? Usually GB pain is on the right side slightly below the bottom of your rib cage. You could be experiencing a gall stone attack. This is something to be checked out. I waited way too long to address my band GB and ended up having an emergency surgery to get it removed.
No matter what, if the pain continues please call your doctor in the a.m.
I'm praying that your pain goes away.

hm, I don't think it is the gall bladder, the pain is more in the left side, it is all over the left side, but definitely more intensive around the port area. I went to bikram yoga, but I don't think that would pull the port away from the muscle it's stitched to- or would it? I will see how it is tomorrow, thanks Lisa for keeping me in your prayers! Evelyn
I actually had that same thing happen during my first year with my band. I asked the Dr about it, For me it was because of all of the work I was doing in the gym and pool. Muscles were growing and pushing into the port. It did settle after awhile. (I did NOT slack off the gym, I figured if it was my fat that was causing me the issues...it needed to go) I haven't had those pains in a long time now. I would tell your Dr, but I have a feeling they will tell you its not a worry. :)

despite all the great medical advice you get from the doctors here, a new severe abdominal pain should always be run by your surgeon or at least your primary care doctor that same day.
severe abdominal pain can be something very benign and go away on its own, or it could be something that kills you.
how much are you willing to bet?
