Port removal?

Has anyone heard of having your port removed?
Has anyone had their port replaced with a smaller one?
If so, what was the procedure?

Usually its a outpatient procedure.  They just go in and remove the port you have and put in a new one.  The new ports are smaller.  Looked like you had surgery in 2007.


Jean had to have her port replaced I think.  PM her.

I had port revision surgery July 2008 (after band surgery) - it was done outpatient an laproscopically.

I also just had it removed in August when I had revision to RNY - which was a bit more complicated due to the location my original surgeon place it...

Do they put it in the same place? Mine has always stuck out but now it looks like a door knob!

I had my port removed yesterday because it was leaking. I was very nervous about it because the pain was so bad after first surgery. This time was a breeze. I was out of recovery and a home within 2 hours of the surgery.  He put a smaller port in there but it is hard for me to tell because i am still so swollen. By the way I was a self-pay it ran about $5,000. Hopefully it will be worth it.

Thanks for responding, I dont understand though...your port was leaking???What was it leaking? Or do you mean you hadytour band removed? If you mean your port, it cost $5,000 to just take it out they didnt replace it with a new one?? Please explain.

Actually it was the tubing that went from the port to the band, It cracked in half and would leak all the sailine out when I would get a fill. So I went in Tuesady and they replaced tubing and port (they won't just replace tubung, they have to replace port and tubing.) My band around my stomach was fine. It $5k to go in and put new port and tubing.

ok, now I get it. So did they put the new port in the same place and is it the same size? I either want a smaller one in a different place or the port to be removed completely.How are you feeling and did you have to have one incision or several?
