Nervous for surgery

Hi i'm Mel, after all the countless appointments and waiting, my surgery is scheduled for October 12th (5 more days, eek). I know it's a pretty simple surgery, but i'm a huge baby when it comes to hospitals and surgery. Well, I kind of am a baby, i'm only 18. I just wanted to know how long after the surgery should I expect to be feeling pain/how bad it will be. I'm also struggling on my 2 week liquid diet

Hey Mel!

the pain is what it is and you will get some pain meds. Follow the diet your surgeon gives you exactly!

Let's assume that you have done all the right research on which procedure is right for you and the best surgeon in your area. Then just remember that you have had good reasons for making each decision along the way.
We all fear change. It always seems more comfortable in the familiar.

You must be a good candidate for surgery, or they would never give you a date.

Fasten your seat belt and get ready for an amazing ride. Life WILL change and that's good. You weren't enjoying the current way you live and that will soon fade into distant memory.

Go thru the forum threads and just look for Happy posts where the person has reached a goal, or had a fun NSV.

Soon that will be you.

I had band surgery about a month ago. The pain I had was mainly muscle pain in my abs. I felt like I did a lot of sit ups for about 2-3 days. The pain meds helped greatly. The first night I did not sleep much for two reasons 1) I had to pee a lot from the fluids they pumped me with 2) I had the need to walk about every hour during the night. But over all the surgery and recovery was not that bad. And you know what if you want to be whiny and emotional so be it don't let anyone tell you other wise. I know I had my moments and still do. Be prepared especially being a woman for your emotions to be all over the map leading up to and shortly after surgery. The 2 week liquid diet sucked no questions the shakes ended up making me sick and my nurtitionist advanced me to meat and dairy only 6 days out because the shakes were too much. Do what you can and take it easy. And know that you have an entire community of support here.

You are having surgery and there is a bit of pain post op. You can take pain meds.

Just know that you will be feeling better in a couple of days to a week.

Be patient with yourself. Your body needs to heal.

You will do great.

Best of luck!!!!

Melanie, you have come this far, you can do it. As for post op. pain, the liquid pain medicine the doctor will give you will help a lot. Just dont wait until the pain is too intense, as soon as you think you need it, take the smallest dose possible. Dont let the pain build up. My only post op problem was a "ball of gas" stuck under my ribcage that I couldn't get to come out, As I was alone from the second day of surgery. Finally got the nurse on the phone and was instructed to kneel down and place my forehead on the floor and work the gas up. Would have been simpler for someone to help "burp" me like a baby. I went back to work 5 days after surgery..NOT SUGGESTED. Take your time and heal propperly. With your age, you will heal fast...GOOD LUCK.
