Advice Please
I was banded Sept 1st. I lost when I went for my 1st post op appointment since then I have started on solid foods I am still following the meal plan but I seem to be gaining back some of the weight that I lost. I have yet to have my 1st fill. Is this normal? I am not overeating I am not eating unhealthy still not drinking soda and I am gaining. I am so disappointed
Early loss of weight is in the form of glycogen, water soluble fat which is easy to access, designed by nature for flight, fight or famine! Once the body realises tht this " famine" is not going to stop and intake is nt going to return to previous levels, it needs to rebuild glycogen stores for the next emergency. As this fat is water soluble , to rebuild a store of about 2 lbs of glycogen, we must also store about 4 times that amount of water. So about 8 lbs.
You are now using energy from other stores and so from that pov are losing pounds. But at the same time rebuilding a store! So although you may appear to be losing nothing, fat is still being used up instead of the calories you used to get from food.
Make sense?

Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
My doc told me i cant exercise yet but i have been walking about 30 to 40 minutes a day check with the office to see if that is ok for you .I had my surgery on sept 12thand he said to walk whenever I can !!!! Once you do start exercising along with the other stuff you are doing it willl fall off ! Good Luck!
I know it's hard to be patient when you are in the position you are in. But if you are doing all the right things, it will show up. Kate explains it very well. To sum up what I've experienced with my body in the last 9 months. I lose weight, then my body has to catch up. While I think nothing is going on, and I'm not losing, then I realize my clothes are getting more lose, or better yet, I have to go down a size, but it's not really showing on the scale. Then finally it does, and that cycle starts all over again. It is especially dishearting when you move from liquids to mushies and then real food, because of the quicker and larger weight loss on the liquids. But your body will regroup. You are doing GREAT. Keep it up!
