Hi everyone, I'm on my second month of the 6 month diet and exercise plan, and instead of losing weight, I've gained 2 lbs. I'm getting nervous as to how this might affect their decision to give me the surgery.
Does anyone know how much emphasis is placed on this?

From my understanding most insurance companies require 5-10% weightloss and there is little wiggle room with this. Documenting everything you eat and everything you do will help show that you are having trouble. Keep in mind you might be building muscle which is common especially in the beginning. If you continue to have trouble try and see if there is something medical giong on. I had problems losing weight because I had insulin resistance and needed medication for it. Hang in there you will lose the weight.

I had BCBS of IL and they didn't require any particular weight loss only that you followed a medically supervised plan. I did lose a little but not much. It really depends on what is required by your ins. co. and/or doc. You might call and ask if they require any certain amount be lost. Mine just wanted you to show you had tried. Good luck!

Hi! I had to do the 6 month diet before approval and they really did place emphasis on the amount of weight lost.  Good news is that they only look at end result, not monthly, so you still have 4 months!!  Things that got me through were journaling, exercise, and water.  Make sure you getting lots of water in and try to exercise every day! I did not really start losing weight until month 3 and then I lost in 3 and 4 and then just maintained in months 5 and 6.  Don't get nervous because you worrying can slow the weight loss, so just try to do the best that you can.  l

My monthly call with my life coach also helped.  She was wonderful and I was totally honest with her.  She offered me great tips and really gave me motivation.  If I was not doing great, I told her so that I could get honest feedback and tips.

Good  luck, and just keep trying and you will get through it!!
