strange feeling

Today I laughed really hard at a co-worker and ever since that moment, my throat has felt strange.  I can still pass water but it feels like somethings coming up my throat.  I ate lunch at almost 6 hours ago and had chicken and potatoes, but I don't feel like the issue is food stuck.  I don't know what the feeling is, but it's almost like a butterfly in the stomach combined with a lump in my throat.  Any idea what this could be?

Ever been checked for hiatal hernia?

I have one and it feels like things get "stuck" all the time. All I have to do is move wrong and I feel kinda wonky.

My doc thinks my band most likely caused the hernia since my diaphragm was damaged during lapbanding, but I think they can occur at just about any time, unfortunately.

You might have only irritated your diaphragm, though, too.

Feel better soon.

Yep- me too
Usually ( & I know its a NO NO) drinking a gulp of water and sometimes turning a certain way as you bend while swallowing ( I know it sounds funny) it will pass.

I've lived like that for 2 years

You get used to it if thats what it is...

Maybe the hard laughter irritated your throat or esophagus?

It doesn't take much to **** off my esophagus since I've been banded, but if that happened every time I laughed, I'd be in trouble because I live to laugh.

Seriously, though....I know what you mean. After I took my evening meds last night, I felt as if they'd gotten stuck somewhere even though I cut them into tiny pieces and drank plenty of water with them. I could still swallow water, but it felt like there was a big lump in the back of my throat. The lump was still there when I got up this morning, but a few hours and 3 glasses of water later, the lump is gone.

I sometimes get that lump feeling when my sinuses are draining (I have major pollen allergies).

If you get so you can't swallow at all, call your surgeon ASAP. And maybe follow a liquid diet for 24 hours to see if everything calms down.

Well thank you for everyone's input.  I took it easy the rest of the evening and did a protein shake.  By Saturday it was feeling much better.  I was worried that it was going to progress to not being able to swallow.  Luckily, this didn't happen.  I'm still not positive what happened, but I don't think it's a hernia.  Thanks for the insight again, and if it does return, of course I'll set up an appointment!
