I need support!

Why is it so hard when you get down to the last 5-10 lbs? I'm going crazy!!!

Earlier this year, my band was too tight, and I had to get saline taken out. During that time, I got down to 152 lbs (my goal is between 145-150 lbs). Well, I gained a few lbs back which was to be expected since I was barely eating anything when my band was too tight. If fact, I threw up a lot, etc.

Anyway, so I knew I would gain a few lbs...now I feel like I can't get rid of them and I need some help/support/motivation to get back on my square. I have lost over 90 lbs from where I started so I am not trying to be a crybaby!! I am proud of what I accomplished, but I need some help.

I am eating three meals per day. I snack in the evening sometimes. I have not been exercising as regularly as I did last year. I got sick a few weeks ago (my allergies) and it zapped my energy. I'm just struggling getting back on the exercise routine. I know that's probably the key piece to this cause it's not like I'm eating a whole lot. I have days just like anyone else where I eat not so great, but honestly, it's not that often or that bad (esp. compared to the way I used to eat).

Any help/support/kick in the ass would be appreciated!!

Toni - First, I am a newbie but I do know about being fatigued.  I started taking 1,000mcg of B-12 sublingually.  It really helps with being tired.  It also comes in 500mcg.

Other than that the only thing I can say is what they tell us at the beginning.  Watch what we eat and exercise.  I wrote a letter to myself about what I wanted to accomplish with this surgery.  I hope that keeps me motivated.  We'll see!!

If you were one of my friends here...I would tell you to "put your big girl panties on".  I mean that sincerely as a joke.  I hope you find what motivates you.  You have done a great job and I hope a year from now I can say I have done as well.

I tell people to put their big girl pants on all the time!! So that doesn't offend me at all!! Thanks for the support! And honestly, I think half of our success comes from attitudes. My surgeon told me the reason I did so well was that I always had a positive attitude. My mantra has been, "Failure is not an option." And that keeps running in my head. I'm getting back on my square slowly but surely!!

Failure is not an option.

I know it sounds silly but write or print that on a piece of paper and hang it somewhere where you will see it every day.  Put it on your signature for here.

I just remember every day is one more day I am here with my son and my life is a blessing.  My husband doesn't have that option.  He died three years ago from a heart attack - contributed to by obesity.  He was 39.  My motto is "Every day is a gift that you been given, make the most of the time every minute your living."  It is from a Chris Rice song.

I hope that what I have said doesn't upset you.  I just want you to know that we are lucky to have the desire and opportunity to change our lives for the better.

So have a great day.  If you can go for a walk, I don't know if the fall foliage is out in Pennsylvania but I am sure it is still beautiful.  It is here and after work I will go for a walk with my son and our dog.

Karen,
I am so sorry to hear about your husband. You are so very right about that. I'm lucky in so many ways...I lose sight of that. And I am grateful to be able to run around with my son (he's 5 years old) and be active with him and in fact, he takes walks with me regularly when the weather doesn't suck! So I should be grateful about that as well and look at what is going right rather than what isn't. I have a sneaking suspicion that things will fall into place when I stop worrying!! And I'm gonna make a sign for my fridge with my motto on it. Good suggestion!

Thanks guys for the support!! Bette and Karen: you guys rock!

Toni: I hate to say it, but you may just have to let those last few pounds go. Sometimes, our bodies want to be where they want to be, weight-wise. That doesn't mean you have to give up, but you could try not to be so hard on yourself.

And, I may add, you look FANTASTIC is your avi pic!!

Thanks, Bette!! I am trying to come to term with that as well cause you may be right. I have a friend who has been stuck at 148 lbs forever and gets frustrated cause she wants to be a few pounds lighter. She looks fantastic and thin and I always tell her that. We help each other out!! Maybe I'm meant to be this size. I feel like I eat well. I'll keep working but I do have to let it go. I'm definitely an obsesser and that's an issue I have to continue to work through. Cause I end up letting it depress me. I have hidden the scale from myself for that very reason.

Everyday I feel like I'm going crazy, talking about being obsessed,  I must weigh myself at least 7 times a day.  My weight just want go down.  I had my surgery 7 months ago and have lost about 35 lbs, but I still need to loose about 40 more and I am trying so hard, but the stupid scales just want go down.  You've done great to loose over 90 lbs!!!  Congratulations....

Thank you, Carol!! It gets better. I promise. I have hid the scale from myself several times in the last year and a half and sometimes you just have to do that. Stopping obsessing doesn't mean go crazy, right?!!! It just means....stay focused, do what you are supposed to do (eat the right foods and the right portions and exercise), and the weight will come off. It really does. I remember having that same experience a few months after surgery. I felt like I was hardly eating anything yet the scale wouldn't move. Me and the scale have a love/hate relationship!! Anyway, all at once, I'd lose 4 lbs. It happens like that all the time especially when you have more to lose at the beginning. Keep a positiive attitude and jump on here when you need support or a boost of confidence and it'll get better! If you ever need anything, just ask. That's what I love about this site.

Hey Toni- you know how to do it, you just have to get down to doing it again. Make a plan- work the plan and you'll watch those few pounds come off. The last few are the toughest ones- ALWAYS so every little thing REALLY counts. Try adding back exercise a little bit at a time - I don't know what you do but instead of doing an hour- try to 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 15 minute mini-workouts until you are feeling 100% again...at this point it really is calories in and calories out so count them...those few extra almonds are really going to count- did you journal at thebeginning? You may want to do that now and make sure you get in all of your protein and ALL of water...It's really about back to basics but with a vengence! Make sense?
