what is/was your goal weight?
I am 14 months out from surgery. I started my journey at 338lbs in October of 2009. I am 5'6" and presently 222lbs and 48 years old. My surgeon told me she expected me to lose 75lbs on 2 years after surgery. so needless to say I am beyond their goal. How did you determine your goal? I would like to think 180 is possible before seeking reconstruction. My back muscles are killing me and the more I exercise the worse it gets.

I am 5'7 and I started out at 319, I am currently 205.5. My original goal was 180, but as I am quickly approching it and based on what my body looks like right now I am thinking I want to change it to 160. Oh and I am 5'7. I think your goal should be where YOU feel comfortable, look healthy and feel confident!
You and I had the same starting weight and weigh exactly the same right now. I'm 5'9" and my personal goal is to weigh 195. It's 20 lbs above the recommended BMI weight but I'm tall and 49 years old so I don't think I'll ever see 173 again. My dr. thinks my goal weight s/b 210 but I want to hit wonderland even if it's for 1 day! Losing these last 25 lbs is a killer!
BTW, I have developed terrible lower back muscle pain since losing my weight. I've had my spine checked and it's not a disc problem so I'm working on pain solutions through exercise and stretching. The thought is that I lost a lot of muscle losing weight so fast and not exercising much. I'm seeing a specialist today to get further input but I sure didn't lose all this weight to be crippled by lower back pain! Also, my personal trainer believes it's my glutes and surrounding muscles that are too tight from sitting all day and not the actual muscles in my back. So there you are, for what it's worth.
Congratulations on the awesome WL success!

I am 4"11. My original goal was 120- was there in college and thought I it worked. As I lost the weight my goal became 110. As I am now working hard to maintain my goal is 115- right in the middle of the other 2 goals. If you really have no idea- go to a bmi calculator- just google it and see what weight puts you at a healthy BMI

I used Weigh****chers goal ranges to determine my goal weight.
I am 5'6" and 53 -- the top of the range for that height is 155 pounds -- so that is what I set.
I had my brachioplasty and breast lift when I was about 10 pounds above goal.
I lost about 2 - 3 pounds from that surgery --- then lost the rest through diet and exercise.
I have been maintaining a few pounds below my goal for 9 months now.
I am considering a tummy tuck -- think that might take care of about 5 pounds -- but have not gotten serious about getting consults for it yet (I have a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up -- scheduled in about 3 1/2 weeks ----- will pursue the PS quote after that).

I had no idea what my target should be when I started out. I am 5'4" and 61. I knew that someone my age needs to be careful about losing too much due to the greater muscle loss for us and potential bone loss. Over 10 years ago I lost a bunch of weight and was 145, for a few weeks. I thought I would use that and if it wasn't realistic I would change my goal. I met it after 5 months, then went another 5 pounds down but called a halt because I looked horrible and wasn't getting rid of my larger upper abdoman like I wanted, just losing my already skinny butt. I am 148-150 right now and look and feel much better. I would like to go back to 145 so I would have a few pounds to play with but who knows?
