OT-Urgent - your help needed

(Gulp) I'm getting ready early for work today because I need to meet with a coworker whose shift ends as mine begins. She is the current union rep but she has so many complaints against her that the rest of us in the 10 person unit are afraid of the long term damage her actions will cause. I don't want to go into toooo much detail (for her privacy) but bottom line is I'm asking for an official election (she wasn't elected..just named when the previous rep retired) and that I will be running for the position because I want fair representation for all of us...not just for dues paying members. She has publicly called non-dues paying members lazy for not coughing up the money, among other derogatory statements. She's very defensive so its going to be hard for her not to take this personal.

I just need your positive thoughts and prayers from those who believe, that the right words will come out of my mouth and that I will not buckle under her stronger personality. Thank you so much. The meeting will be all concluded by 2pm CDT because she never stays a minute longer than the end of her shift.

I understand what you are going though 100%, my husband just went though the exact same situation at work. It was so hard b/c he was friends with the person, but it needed to be done for the whole of the unit. I hope everything goes smoothly and there are few bumps.

Thank you. She and I were friends too. That makes it tough but makes me even more determined to be as objective as possible. maybe at a later date, if she ever grows up, it could
get better but I have to do what I have to do. With her being 54 years old, I was hoping she'd done most of her growing up already.

Think of all the other people who will be helped by her being removed from her current position. It always helps me to be stronger for others then to be strong for myself.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts and support. The drama is over for the moment. The meeting lasted about 30 minute of the two hours I had allotted..two hours of my own time. She started the meeting by stating flat out that if I had any issues to discuss that came from NON-dues paying members, she wouldn't discuss it. I kept my cool, even when she called me a liar and I said that I will be seeking an official election and run because I want fair representation for our unit, and its within my rights to request that it be done.

When she walked out of the meeting, heading straight for our supervisor's office, I left the building and went on a short drive to fill up my gas tank that was nearly empty. My boss heard that I left the building and waited for me outside in the picnic area. He was concerned I was driving while upset. I smiled in appreciation but stated I was just fine thanks..just needed a few minutes to "find my center" after her explosion. I must've bit my tongue nearly in half after some of the things she said but I kept my cool. With enough rope, she will hang herself without me having to lift a finger.

Ok..now that I've made my attempt (1 of many) to talk to her directly, my next next is to talk to the next level of the union board...but I'm going to take a few days to get my ducks in a row, and write down everything I remember from our meeting.
