I have been over weight my whole life, now that their is a possibility that I could get to a healthy weight with the assistance of surgery I have been told that my BMI is not high enough it is 38.2.  I have been trying to gain weight but for what ever reason it is not working for me.  Have I been going about this the wrong way or what.  Do I gain weight jsut to have the surgery or what.  I am currently 225 lbs.  I need to be some where in the neighborhood of 235.  I have talked to my prrimary care doctor  he thinks that I am a good canidate for surgery, but does not think that I shoud be putting on any weight  just to get the surgery.
I do have other health issues such as high blood pressure and the threat of diabites.
Any suggestions or am I just crazy.

Since you have high blood pressure, and threat of diabities I would file an appeal with your insurance company. I wish I had done that, I was self pay. Hope you can work it out!

I am  looking to appeal, and right now I am so depressed I might just end up gaining the weight anyway.  its only 10 lbs.  I have worked so hard at this I was at 280 lbs 4 yrs ago and have come a long way but I have been struggling now for almost 2 years to get under  200lbs.  Im sure sometnig will give sooner that later.  Thanks for your support

I agree with the above poster, with your issues I would say that you need to appeal the decision and keep fighting it. There is an insurance forum on here somewhere, with knowledgeable people who know how to fight the system. You can go to the upper right hand corner and search for it. Good luck!

my friend put on ankle weights to join a weight loss program. If you are clothed at weigh in, maybe you can do this too.

His BMI, with those cormorbidities, should be enough to get him approved without committing insurance fraud.

The other name for that is insurance fraud.

Well, I didn't do it. Gaining wt on purpose would be the same thing.

don't worry I won't be committing insurance fraud, you can go to jail for that.
