Checking in
Hi all! I had my surgery on the 6th of September. Everything went very smoothly. I told the anesthesiologist that I was nervous so he gave me some "happy" drugs and I didn't care anymore - LOL! I went right to sleep and woke up with my band! I did experience a lot of pain from the abdominal gas - I know this varies with everyone. I just couldn't seem to get rid of it - I managed with Gas X strips and I walked around the house every couple of hours. The pain eased with the walking and improved continuously - it was completely gone after a couple of days. Any of you who have not had the surgery yet - I want to mention something that I didn't realize beforehand. When you go home from surgery on the clear liquid diet make sure you have some fruit juice to sip. I was sipping warm water (felt great) and warm tea but I was neglecting to get any calories. I felt really feeling bad by day 7 when I realized my blood sugar was probably near zero - LOl! Once I started getting some calories in I felt better very quickly! Warm fluids really helped ease any discomfort I had in my throat from the intubation and any upper GI discomfort I had. All in all it really was very tolerable. I encourage you to sip Isopure (clear liquid protein) if you can - it will help you maintain some calories and the protein helps you heal. I had a bit of a hard time with the Isopure due to nausea but everyone is different. I am now 2 weeks post op and feeling fantastic - I just can't wait to exercise! I hope you all are doing well. Please don't hesitate to ask questions if you are preop and wondering what to expect.

Hi Mel!!
Glad everything went smoothly for you! Sorry you had to deal with those nasty gas pains! I was banded on the 6th as well! :) I survived mostly on SF Ice pops, SF Kool Aid and water lol.
When is your first post-op visit?
