Good News and Scary News

My surgeon left in July and I needed a fill then, but it was Sept 13 before I could get in to see the new  surgeon. Met with him, everything seemed pretty good. He seems like a knowledgable surgeon, I 've heard good things about him from others.
My records from my old surgeon were in a mess by the time they arrived at the new surgeon.( It showed I had16cc fill in my 14cc band) I told surgeon I was sure that I only had 8cc. He removed all fluid and I had 8 cc, so he added 2cc's. I had never had that aggressive of a fill. But my weight loss has been slow and "restriction" very minimum. He also said he didnt charge for tweaking it , so to call next week and let him know how I was handling it.
Long story short I have been on liquids since last Tuesday. I tryed mushies on Sat and had a horrible stuck episode that then turned into vomitting. I went back on liquids to make it till Monday when I could call surgeons office.
I went in today expecting a small unfill. They weighed me I have lost 6lbs. (yea me!) The nurse said the Dr. wants me back on liquids and Carafate slurrie until Fri. then he will do a Fluro and check for a slip or hernia. WTF?? Why noit a small unfill first and see how I do? This is making me very nervous. Does this seem like a knowledgeable path for the Dr. to take? I am really nervous at the thought of a slip, but I am soo tight I can barely do liquid.
I did tell the dr. on the day of my fill tha it usually takes two days before I really feel my fill take hold. Any thoughts?

2cc's seems like a huge fill to me.  I don't understand why he didn't just take some out.  Your problems only started after this fill. I would call and say you want an unfill now.

If it were me, I wouldn't leave the office until they gave me a small unfill. Being too tight is never good and definitely has consequences.

5.0 cc in a 10cc lapband  (four  fills) 1 unfill of .5cc  on 5/24/2011.
.5 fill  March 2012. unfill of .25cc May 2012.  Unfill of .5cc June 2014.

Still with my lapband with no plans for revision. Band working well since

last small unfill.

I don't know why he wouldn't just do a small unfill. Maybe he's thinking that your symptoms are related to irritation from the fill which will subside in a few days. If we assume the worst (a band slip) and you if you stay on liquids and if you are able to consume at least 64 ounces of liquids a day and if you have no life-threatening symptoms between now and Friday, the slip (if there is one) will probably not get worse in the meantime.

But that's a lot of "ifs". I'd want an unfill. Living with the band should not involve daily suffering.

"Living with the band should not involve daily suffering"

That should be a bumpersticker or daily affirmation!

I recently had a .03cc fill and went from eating too much too fast to can't swallow my own spit so yeah -  2ccs seems really aggressive from my point of view.  The next day I went in because I felt so terrible and had half of what was put in removed -  sooooo much better.  You should not need to be on liquids this long and they dos needs to take some out!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I can't get back in before Fri., so I will stay on liquids. The carafate has helped the irritation, but I still think I need at least .05 taken out. Jean-just wanted to let you know the first thing I did Sat was get my Bandwagon Bible out to make sure I was following all the rules.
I did not ever get to see the Dr. today only the nurse. She did say that he wondered if my body was just reacting to the fill. I finally for the first time understood eating with a baby spoon and having chicken cut in pencil eraser size bites. I have never had that kind of restriction before. I just do not want to risk losing my band and doing damage to myself.
Thanks everyone for the response. I lurked all weekend looking at old posts on people having stuck episodes. I looked at Lisa O's blog on her eating habits. I just needed to reassure myself I was doing what I was supposed to do. I will keep you posted.

Goodness....2 ccs sounds like a huge fill. I would definitely get in as soon as possible for that unfill.

Best of luck,
Lindsey

Hmmmm almost sounds like he's setting you up for a slip! Be very very careful until you can see him again and even after your fluro if you are still tight insist on a bit of an unfill. Doesn't sound like he's all that experienced. Good luck hon.

I agree with everyone else.  I sometimes get frustrated that my docs office is so conservative with fills, but 2cc's would even freak me out.  Please keep us informed.
