seeing a doctor 9/30 to try to get insurance approval...
i really need this...i really really need this
i'm 290 pounds, and i cant control how i eat
ive been trying to get to the gym 4-5 times a week, hired a personal trainer
i have a history with anxiety and depression, was briefly on prozac through this practice
will these things count against me?
is there anything i can really say to my doctor to try to win his favor?
according to my insurance policy i wont be covered unless i'm considered "morbidly obese" so i need this referal, but everyone ive told about this is so against me getting this surgery (as if theyre the ones that have to live with completely detesting themselves) . really the only thing i can think to tell them is how like half my family has type 2 diabetes
if anyone could offer any advice thatd be great, not to be a jerk but "you can do its" and "be braves" and "cheer ups" wont do me much good...thanks...

Sorry your lacking support in your decision...
But first, you say you cant control your eating are you sure the band is for you? According to vet banders and my 5wks of experience w/ the band a huge majority is @ least 85-90% dedication to how and what you eat.
Next is this is your 1st time speaking to a surgeon just list out all of your concerns and what your roadblocks are thus far and ask him to mention what surgeries he recommends for you and research them as much as you possibly can! My surgeon only does bypass and band, and even though my original choice wad the band he agreed he thought it was best for me! (bypass scares me) but other than being obese i had no health issues so when he sent my referal to the ins company he fabricated some of issues like swollen ankles, knees and shortness of breath.
Thats just my personal experience... I cant speak on the rest i hope you find what it is your lookin for

Hello, your story is pretty much like mine. I decided to have the Lap-Band because I kept gaining weight and couldn't stop it. 10-15 pounds a year. I went to a Weight Loss Management place last year for three months and lost 7 pounds. Regained that plus 10. My band, without any kind of restriction, has allowed me to watch what I eat and stay below 1200 calories a day....that in itself is a miracle. I have never, ever been able to do that for over one or two days. I am not really hungry the way I used to be. I can see now, what I used to eat, even though before when I would eat I would justify that it really wasn't that much!!! I was wrong!! It was, I would eat for breakfast one container of fake egg, three corn tortillas, three pieces of lunch meat, salsa, and mayo. My justification was its only about 550 calories....now, I only eat one, with no mayo. And it satisfies, and with no restriction!! Don't let some people tell you it won't work....everyone is different. Yes, you do have to watch yourself, and I I could probably stuff my face, but I would be sick!!! You will change after you get the band, everyone usually does, I would not have believed that I would change, but I did, and I am looking forward to losing mor weight. I am only 6 weeks from surgery. I have only lost 25 pounds, but even that is more than I have lost in over 10 years. Keep the faith.....SpikePL
PS: I forgot to say, at 290 pounds you ARE mobidly obese unless you are like 7 foot tall !!! If your BMI is over like 40, your insurance should approve you. I was 49 and got approved, I am down to 44 now after 6 weeks. You will probably have to see a nutritionist for a few months, I had to as a condition to approving my surgery, for only 3 months. Good Luck!! SpikyPL
Sorry, one more thought, I had my surgery and did not tell anyone except my husband and my oldest son (just in case something happened to me). I didn't tell my youngest son till after I had it. I didn't tell my mom or my sister, my friends, even my co-workers.....I told them I was taking one week off for personal time at home to clean!!! It doesn't matter who supports you and who doesn't, as long as you make up your own mind!! You are the one going through it....after, what can they do......they will support you, if they don't, stop being around them!!!! SpikyPL
