Question for Jean
I have been having leg cramps real bad. Is it safe to take Calm I don't know if you know what I am talking about. They sell it in the health food stores. It has magnesium in it. It does foam up when you mix it. Do you think it is safe for our bands. I don't want to damage my band. This stuff is great for cramps or constipation. What do you think?
I hadn't heard of the Calm product - I'll have to tell my husband about it because he's often bothered by leg cramps.
Magnesium citrate (the super ingredient mentioned on the All Calm website) is commonly used to relieve constipation and to cleanse the colon before colonoscopy. My gastroenterologist knows I'm banded and has me use liquid magnesium citrate as a colon prep. I don't think it bothers my band at all....all the action happens at the other end of my GI system!
You should ask your bariatric surgeon about the safety of the Calm product (bring the product package with you). Some side effects of magnesium citrate are listed here: http://www.drugs.com/sfx/magnesium-citrate-side-effects.html.
Carbonated and fizzy stuff is uncomfortable for me to drink nowadays, but although carbonated and other fizzy things aren't recommended for bandsters, I doubt that one cup of Calm tea a day could stretch your pouch or stoma.
