??Question??
I know there is a Fibromyalgia Forum, and I know this might not be the place to ask this question, but I feel like I will get a quicker response if I ask it here. I have asked questions on the Fibromyalgia Forum and it took days before I got even one response. So, if y'all don't mind, here is my question.
My doctor prescribed Cymbalta for my fibromyalgia pain. I took the first one (30mg) last night and oh my goodness....I was awake on and off all night. I am sooo nauseous. I feel like I am going to vomit. I am achy (could be the weather) I feel like I am catching a bug. I feel feverish and have a yuck taste and feeling in my mouth. I already stay hot all the time and sweat very easily, but I think it is worse today. I don't want to take another one. Has this happened to anyone? Should I try to tough it out and hope these bad side effects subside? It would be great if I could get through this, and it helps me with my pain. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh man, this sounds awful. I'm sorry you're going through it.
The side effects I saw for Cymbalta included nausea, trouble sleeping, sore throat, increased sweating. Did your doc say whether they're temporary or not? Maybe your body needs to get used to it? I know... I'm no help!
I wonder if drinking some ginger ale might help with the nausea at least? I can see why you wouldn't want to take another Cymbalta if you're already feeling this way. I'm not sure what to tell you, but I do hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry you are going through this also :o( Could you call the ER and ask about this ? I know my son has had some side effects with medicine he has taken along time ago and I just called the ER and asked questions and they had no problem answering me .
They should be able to tell you about how long the side effects will last and if it will get worse if you take another one .
I sure do hope you feel better soon !!!!

Hi there I kow exactly what you are talking about! The first few days I took cymbalta I felt like I was doing speed or something, couldn't sleep and just felt all amped up. Didn't have the nausea tho but did have yuck mouth because it dries out your mouth. My side effects went away in a few days, by a week for sure and the cymbalta really helps my fibro so if you can stand it try to tuff it out. Or ask your doc if you can do 1/2 dose for a few days then up to the 30 mg. Mine had me dump half the capsule out then put the capsule back together and take that. It does have to be taken in the capsule because it's time released. My fibro makes me feel like I have the flu all the time so that may not be a good indicator as to whether the med is working. Good luck I hope you make it cause like I say the cymbalta helps me alot especially with the muscle aches.
This board is great for support and advice, but in this case I would seek proffessional medical advice. Be it the pharmacy, ER, or your doctor. My preference would be the doc. who prescribed it. I'm sure he's got an answering service. You'll probably end up talking to one of the nurses, but they should be able to help you. Hope you feel better soon.

I would call a pharmacy and see what they suggest. Maybe you could take an anti nausea med like Zofran while you get used to the med. Also I would increase fluids.
I take Cymbalta (60 mg) for my fibro and depression. It really helps with the soreness. When I first started taking it, I definitely got nauseous. A couple times I would be off of it for a couple weeks or more and then back on...every time it made me nauseous, but it did go away after a couple days. I still experience dry mouth and mild dizziness and light headedness every now and then. But I've never experienced anything as severe as what you've described. Do you still have the pamphlet the pharmacy gave you with the prescription? Reading that will tell you some of the expected side effects and when they're severe enough to call a doctor.

Just a warning, I am an RN and I have taken Cymbalta- I had a severe reaction. It completely screwed up my brain for two days (I only took those 2 doses)! Every person is different, but I would suggest that you call your MD ASAP and get their opinion. Cymbalta is a serious medication and you can never be too careful.
