My name is Jennifer and I'm fairly new to this site I'm been on here for bout 2-3 weeks and have been researching the lap band like crazy... I was all for it, I went to the seminar and then made the apt to see the surgeon . He said I was good for the lap band but my overall goal is to lose 155 lbs to be what I was before I had my daughter 11 years ago. The guy that works with the doc. he had the sleeve and told me that if the Bypass and the Lap Band got married and had baby that the sleeve would be it. lol  I'm sooooooo CONFUSED.  My thought at first was I didn't want my insides to be cut on, and that the Band can be taken out if need be. Now I don't know what to do I left the office signed up for the Sleeve and crying but I have 6mo to change my mind due to ins process, CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME CAN YOU TELL ME BOUT THE SLEEVE VS. THE BAND?? Ive been crying for two days and stressing myself out. I don't want to die having the sleeve surgery and that's what I'm afraid of. but I know I will die earlier from being fat if I don't do something and clearly I cant do it on my own. what are the complications with the sleeve and can someone or everyone that has had the sleeve tell me why and what made them choose that, BECAUSE THERE IS NO GOING BACK ONCE ITS OUT!   Thanks

I think you will get more information on the sleeve over on the sleeve forum. Have you checked out the group in my siggy ?

Jennifer,

I think you will get more answers now about the sleeve if you go to their board and ask the questions you need to know.

People are starting to shy away from these kind of questions now.  to be honest with you I dont think you will get many responses from people with lap bands.

Go to the search box and bring up older posts and like I said go to the sleeve board and ask questions about that sleeve. They can answer them better then we can.

I honestly dont want to sound mean or rude and I hope you dont take it that way :o)

Good luck in your decision !!!

Hi Jennifer :)  I've been following your posts the past couple of weeks.  I understand how you are feeling . This is a major decision.  While the lapband is working for me, the statistics are less favorable than the sleeve.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and highly recommend that you get the sleeve because  you mentioned how very diificult it will be for you to give up drinking with your meals.  That alone can sabotage the lapband.

The loss with the lapband can be slow. It is for me.  I sometimes wish I wouldve gotten the sleeve but one reason was because  I really didnt want to lose the weight too fast because EVERYONE I personally know whom have lost weight too drastically looked very sickly to me.  I guess we all have things we are afraid of that motivate us one way or another. (disclaimer: I know ALL WLS carry a risk of sagging skin)

I'm one of the lucky ones with the band but I won't recommend it to anyone else because I'd feel like crap if they weren't as fortunate.  ..you really have to decide this for yourself..what works best for you and your own particular lifestyle needs.  Read as much as you can.  Don't let any of us here make this decision for you.

Hope this all made sense and helps in any way....i worked the night shift til 6am this morning and can't seem to drag my happy ass off to bed.

Jolena,

I think with every WLS out there , there is no drinking before and after your meals . I could be wrong but the people I know with the sleeve are the same way like us . No drinking after you eat for 30 min to 60 min :o) or that is what they told me in support and no drinking during eating.  :o)

I *think* though its more dterimental to those of us with a "pouch".   I don't mind being corrected at all.

I had gastric bypass and I have the lap band now.

And drinking will after meals is a no no in both cases.  If you have the surgery, drinking can force food through your stoma causing it to stretch over time.  Which will eventually cause you to gain weight.

I had Dr Paya for both of my band surgeries and he's a really nice guy. Did you have surgery at West Hills ?
