Not sure what to do
Hang in there!! I wasn't sure myself, even in the room right before they took me to surgery. My surgeon came in to talk to me, I didn't remember what she looked like and I told her I wasn't sure. At that point, she told me that if I didn't want it to say so, but I went ahead with it. Four days after my surgery I was soo nausious and had bad pain across my chest, spasms from the diaphram.....I had to go to the hospital that Saturday night, my nurse took out 2.5 cc from the band and I went to the emergency room to be rehydrated and for medicine. That next Tuesday I was still pretty bad, went in and the nurse took out another 2.0cc from the band to completely empty it....I had 4.5cc after surgery....and I was swollen that is why I was so sick. The last month I have been careful, eating only liquids and soft, soft food the first two weeks, the last two weeks I am careful, but if I wanted to I could eat anything. No Pain, no gas, to shoulder pain...nothing. I little pain if I overeat....probably over 1 cup of food. but I am great!!! Next week i go in for my first fill, I don't know how much, but I am ready. So hang in there it will get better. It's done, deal with it, get your mind in it, for now you cannot change it so work with it!!! Keep in touch, let us know how you are doing. Spiky PL
“Buyers remorse"… I know the feeling. Right now you have swelling from the surgery. That will take several weeks to totally go down. Even if you had it out today you would still have some swelling that would limit what you can eat. But after the swelling goes down you will find the band by itself don’t change you a whole lot. The real help (restriction) comes with adding the saline to the band. There was a reason you though about this surgery in the first place. Try to focus on that AND Talk to your therapist about how to cope for a while until you have a chance to really give this new life style a try. Good luck

Thanks guys. I'm sure you're right and that once the swelling goes down, I'll feel better. What's done is done. I've just been freaking out a little bit. I really do appreciate those of you *****sponded with useful comments, even if they weren't what I wanted to hear. What you are feeling post surgery is perfectly natural. I woke up terrified and the first thought that ran through my mind was, " What the hell did I do to myself "
I think everybody feels this way. Not a single person dont go into that operating room second guessing themselves. I was ready to cancel my surgery 24 hrs before it was suppose to happen.
I think deep down you know you wanted the surgery but the fear of actually going through it is pretty darn scary . I was scared I had a family to think about and anything can happen during the surgery.
What I do fault is doctor putting that much saline in you during the surgery I think that was way to much and he should have known better no wonder you was feeling so crappy. Most docs put nothing in or if they do put some in its only like a 1 cc or maybe 2 is pushing it.
Just take it easy follow your instructions and things will get alot smoother for you . Right now you are in pain, scared , and second guessing yourself .

Give the band a chance. You are feeling bad post-op, and understandably concerned about issues you've already encountered. My friend had probs for 2 weeks then it got better for her. Steelerfan has (or had, not certain) nothing in her band and is doing very well. I was so happy that I did in fact wake up, because THAT was my fear. I feared a choice surgery might leave my family without a wife and mother. We've all had some kind of fears and concerns. Just concentrate on healing for the next 5 or 6 weeks, then see how you feel. Good Luck!

did you not have someone with you as you were getting ready to go under & had reservations?
i know my husband was w/me till they rolled me out for even just a recent colonoscopy & certain questions were asked / answered at that time.
clearly you could have stopped this - but what's done is done.
give yourself a month to heal & this may no longer be an issue - but to have ins pay for removal at this point, not likely.

I still wonder some days if I should have had the surgery. I had terrible post op pain and almost half my hair has fallen out. I worry about complications. However I had the surgery and there isn't a thing I can do to change it now. I would suggest that you follow your docs instructions. Mostly likely you will feel much better in a few weeks. Then follow the rules and embrace the tool you now have and pray that you have a successful complication-free journey.

Once you start the weight loss part and get a rocking hot bod... you will not only feel better health wise you will think why would I ever not have done this or why didn't I do it sooner.
I think a lot of your problems come from your doctor filling your band in surgery and your mental state post op. I think if you can change your attitude, your experience will be much better.
Good luck to you and lets see how you feel about in a 6mos to a year ...
