Soft stools

I had a fissure many years ago that needed surgery to correct.  Even with the surgery, it still acts up every now and then, especially when I get constipated or an especially hard stool.  So, it's important that as much as possible I keep my stools soft.  With a high protein diet, constipation and hard stools are a regular reality.  In the past, I would take a stool softener, and I'd be back to normal by the next day.  Could I still do that?  My concern is that I will have to do that much more often than I did, and I don't know if that's the best/healthiest solution.  Do you all have any other suggestions?

Jodi,

Try adding more high fiber foods in your diet that should help soften you up it does me .  If you can eat salads that really helps .I eat a salad every other day and it helps me to keep staying regular and it helps to soften it up some . And there are times I will eat salads three times a day when I get in the mood for them. Our pizza place here makes a awesome Chef's salad and I will eat one of them almost every other day .

Also I found in Walmart and Kroger's called Mission soft taco tortilla .  Its low carb and so high in fiber.  one of them has 13 grams of fiber in it and it averages out to be only 6 net carbs . I like to take them and take stea**** mushrooms, green peppers onions and make like a Philly cheese steak . or make a bacon and egg burrito out of them .  Much healthier then fast food :o)

Those really help me I try to eat them a couple times a week . Also Kellogg's has out Fiber Plus Antioxidants  bars those rock !!! I have the caramel and Coconut Fudge flavored one and dang those babies are good and it  has 35% of our daily fiber needs .

Vita fusion Vita Gummies- 2 Gummies have 5g of fiber, and 10 cal. It's great to add fiber without the extra calories. When I need to I take a 2nd dose at night, but pretty much just take one a day
