New way to calculate BMR and caloric needs
My husband sent me this article. It's pretty interesting and there's a link in it that lets you plug your numbers into the new mathmatical model that was developed so you can see how many calories you should be consuming to either maintain or lose weight.
Of course, I found when I did it, that apparently I am eating almost 3,00 calories a day in order to maintain my weight and that, if I would only cut back to about 1640 calories a day I would lose 50 lbs in 180 days. The only problem with that is, even on my worst day I don't get near 3000 calories and I average 1300-1400 calories a day and I've gained 3 lbs. So, there's science for ya! Anyway, have fun!

those things are so funny .
I did mine awhile back and said for me to maintain at 285 pounds I had to eat at least 2600 calories per day without exercise .
for me to lose a pound a week without exercise I need to eat around 1850 calories per day .
My gosh I eat anywhere from 1000 to 1400 calories a day this weight should be falling of me .
Sometimes it really makes me wonder if we cut our calories way to much and that is why we dont lose as fast or have so many stalls.
Most NUT if you dont have WLS will have you cut your calories back as you lose weight . Say you start off at 2000 calories per day and after so many pounds you drop down to 1800 and so forth till you get down to your goal weight and to your calorie range.
I just wonder if my body is getting the calories I need to lose because like we know if you cut your calories back to far your body will go into starvation mode.
I guess something to ponder on lol. It really does make me wonder though about our calories . I just cant see being healthy if you are only eating around 800 or so calories a day .

OK I went back and re-did mine, just in case I did it wrong the first time (I was rushing) and I think I did do something wrong, because now it tells me I'm eating 2793 calories to maintain my weight. I can't imagine what I would look like if I were actually doing that!

In many ways I can believe in what they are saying. I always followed Richard Simmons and I was very successful with following his weight loss plan the problem I had was keeping it off that was one of the reasons why I had WLS to help keep my weight off , or at least have a much better success rate of keeping it off .
I would start off at 2000 calories . Then every 50 pounds I would drop 50 calories and keep moving down . Five yrs ago right before I went on his Cruise to Lose Trip I lost almost 50 pounds in four months and that was eating 2000 calories a day . He breaks it down how many carbs, how many proteins, how much dairy and fruit you eat a day .
Now I'm struggling to lose weight just eating 1000 to 1400 calories a day and that is even including my screwed up days eating popcorn at night or even something else. No matter how bad it is I track my food no matter what and I have never went over 1500 calories in a day even my totally screwed up days.
It just really baffles me that I lost weight much faster eating 2000 calories a day then eating 1000 to 1400 per day . It makes no dang sense to me .
Anybody got any answers for this one because it really makes me wonder about this . And it comes back down to me second guessing myself if I am getting enough calories for my body and my exercise needs.

Honestly I think it is all BS....it have lost about 75 lbs and need to lose another 25 but I have been stuck at 183 lbs for over a year and a half. I eat on average of 1200 to 1500 calories per day, according to all the info out there, I should be losing at those calories, but unless I drop my calories to 100 or less I CANNOT LOSE. But I have become comfortable where I am I guess and am maintaining very well so I do not feel compelled to drop anymore calories. Perhaps someday I may become more enthused and try again, but for now I am content where I am.
