See...I was sitting here sipping on my coffee and considering the band. Here's my analogy of the day:
Let's say there's a whole bunch of people on a sinking ship. And they all want to get to shore. There are various means...some grab on to a wooden table, some get in a life boat, some dog paddle, some find official Coast Guard life preservers and some even decide to use the little life preservers from the kiddie pool.
MOST of the kiddie life preserver people start to sink, some drown, a very few make it to the shore, and SOME of them make it back to the ship and find their way on to a more substantial rescue vehicle. As those who made it back to the ship see others trying to use additional kiddie life preservers, they try to warn them..."Hey, there's a bunch of people out there using those things and MOST of them are in trouble." The response? "Oh...you are just too stupid/mentally ill/compulsive/etc to know how to REALLY use the kiddie life preservers," and off they go into the drink, hanging on to a cheap piece of plastic for their dear lives.
The End
In any group of a hundred people, there are probably 2 or 3 sociopaths. In a group of a thousand, more like 20-30. They function very well in "affinity groups," where people have things in common and tend to trust strangers. I am NOT saying not to trust anyone. I AM saying that there are probably two dozen sociopaths hanging out here and looking for victims. Most are NOT serial killers.

For the first time ever in my life, I have reached the point of, "I can't care anymore." It makes me sad because I truly and sincerely WANT to care. But how long can you bang your head against a wall without it causing damage? I am fat, I am healthier now than I was while banded, no doubt about THAT, and I'm sick of talking about WLS... so why am I here? I guess I AM compulsive.

Am not sure as to what benefit this post is supposed to do but possibly feed fuel to an already beaten to death argument. People get bands, some work, some do not. Some the fault of the "cheap piece of plastic" as referred to, and some fail due to non compliance of the person banded. No matter what, is there really a reason to take someones choice and make into a 5th graders type of bash?? A "my surgery is better than your surgery" debate. Possibly if people put 1/2 the effort into making their lives happy and better as they did stirring the pot on this forum , there would be so many less hateful posts. I am thankful for my band and if I am one of the few then, I guess for once my luck was in the right direction. You and your group may think you are so much more educated than the rest of us that were banded but I have to disagree, most of the discruntel trash talkers are people that made their own choice to be banded. No one held a band to your head and forced you. It didn't work out, you had a revision(some not yet), awesome, everyones happy for you I am sure. If you are trying to be helpful then maybe you need to take a new approach, all I read is hateful tones and smart comments that are being said to be nothing more than hurtful. Then again, just an opinion from a successful banded person who found happiness and wishes only the best to people, no matter the type of WLS they choice.
I am so sorry but glad that you caught that for me!! Proves even more the fact that you can not fix nasty, bitter and petty people! No matter what you did to try and lose weight, maybe a long hard look in the mirror will show you some truth about yourself, maybe trying to make others look stupid is just your way to try and not make you face the facts of how pathetic you must really be. I actually feel sorry for such miserable people like yourself. If all you were able to respond with is a spelling error, why waste the time, Oh I know because you have beaten the conversation of a failed band to the ground so many times!!! I again am so sorry for spelling a word wrong!! Glad you could reach your soap box and point that out for me.

My comments regarding the lap band have never been about my surgery being better then your surgery, surely you can see this right...right ?
You are not above the 5Th grade type of bashing you accuse others of when you call those of us who have been seriously and permanently injured,as well as financially distressed by the lap band disgruntled 5Th graders, that is a very hateful thing to say and I have seen it time and time again on this forum, and it too has been beaten to death.
Most of the time the majority of us " pot stirrers " on both sides of this forum try to remain calm and respectful, but there are times....right or wrong when we all end up losing our cool.
I do not pretend to be "more educated" then those who are happy and successful with their lap band experience. What I do is share my experience and research with pre-ops and post-ops who I feel I may be able to help. I like helping people and I will continue to do so for as long as I am able to.
Since you mention that non compliant patients fail their bands, would you mind explaining
in detail how a non compliant patient would go about causing the following band failures to themselves ?
Foreign-body reaction.
Infection
Chest pain
Abdominal pain
Port site pain ( burning and stinging )
Shoulder pain
Dehydration
Gastritis
Erosion/Perforation of the stomach
Slippage
Esophageal dysmotility ( may result in inadequate weight loss )
Esophageal distension
Esophageal dilatation
Soft tissue injury
Stoma obstruction
Hiatal hernia
Punctured tubing resulting in leaks
Leaking Access port
Flipped port
Malnutrition, Anemia or other related complications.
Autoimmune diseases/connective tissue disorders (i.e.,
systemic lupus erythematosus, sclero-derma) have
been reported following long-term implantation of
other silicone implants.
