Removal of port?

Wow! It's been literally years since I've been on here. But I have a question that I'm sure there is an answer too...
I want to keep my band, but do not want the port anylonger. Can that be removed?
My restriction is just fine and I do not need to lose anymore weight. I have not had my band adjusted in 4 1/2 yrs and now that I'm at goal weight and am competing in figure competitions the port bulges out and I want it gone!
Anyone out there know of anyone who's had this done?
Thanks!!

My doc would never remove the port unless the band is coming out also. Your doctor might be able to put in lower profile one, but for your own safety I cannot see a doctor removing just the port. You just never know if or when you will have problems and need saline taken out of you.

Thanks for your input. I guess I will call and see what it will take to get a lower profile one...

I agree with Steeler I can't imagine any doc removing the port without removing the whole band. For one that would leave open tubing floating around inside, a perfect place for infection to breed. Not to mention if you ever had stomach trauma from say a car accident they would have to be able to access the band, It just doesn't sound like good idea at all. I would also say see about the new low profile port, it may still show some but that's better than having no acces to your band at all. Your physical health and well being is far more important than your looks. It's probably not near as noticable to others as it is to you.
