New here (kind of)

Hi Everyone!

As I said in the title, I'm kind of new here. I kept going back and forth over whether or not I wanted to make a commitment to surgery over the years. I'd lose some weight, then think maybe I can do this on my own, but then I'd gain it back plus some. Anyway, now I have my eye on the goal, and I'm not backing down.

I've completed 1 of 6 months of supervised diet. I'm scheduled to have my psych eval on Oct 6. I'm kinda nervous about it, I have bipolar disorder. However, I have been out of the hospital for  3 years, and stable on my meds since they put me back on lithium. So, as long as I can take my meds w/ the Lap Band I think I'll be fine.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm far from a medical  professional but I know there are lots of folks who have had WLS that are bipolar and as long as you have a recent history of being stable I wouldn't worry. As far as the meds go, most of them come in other forms like a liquid or can be changed to something that will work for you. Good luck and you might also want to check into the VSG or sleeve it has better results than the band but is not malabsorbtive so shouldn't interfere with your meds either.

I have bipolar as well. The psychologist made it clear she wasn't there to deny surgery, just to help the team get to know me better. I was completely honest about my condition, whi*****ludes addictions. She wanted to talk to my psychologist and psychiatrist. They were both supportive of the surgery. I have had no problems swallowing pills since getting banded. I am glad to hear you have been stable for so long. Keep up the good work!
