Lapband in April and now I am pregnant??????
I just had the lapband in April and just found out today that I am pregnant. I am FREAKING out. Do not get me wrong, I am very happy to be pregnant even though it was a COMPLETE surprise. I just hope this isn't going to mess up my weight loss and band. I know you are not supposed to get pregnant for a year after surgery and I am not even at 6 months. What could happen? Has this happened to anyone? Was the baby alright? I called and have to get in next week to get a complete unfill. I am freaking out about the baby not getting enough nutrition in the last couple of weeks too. I swear I am a panic queen!
I got my band in late February of '07 and was pregnant in June '07. The band helped to cure my obesity related infertility. I had an unfill, a healthy baby... and presumably a band slip. At the time of my first post-pregnancy fill, we found the slip. My doctor didn't think I required corrective surgery.
Now, 3 years later, it has slipped further (though this could have been for some time, as I did not return to the doctor since the bad fill/emergency unfill/slip identification 3 months after the baby was born... and I do not have any severe symptoms) and she believes I will need surgery. We are going to see in two weeks if there has been improvement with my now completely empty band.
But in regard to your biggest concern... the health of your baby... there should be no problem!
Congratulations on such exciting news!

Deep breathe, relax and congrats!!!! First there have been oodles of bandster babies and they do just fine. We don't malabsorb so baby will get plenty of nutrients. Some gals only get a partial unfill for pregnancy so you can doscuss this with your docs. There is a pregnancy forum here to so check that out. You and little one will do just fine!!!
My surgeon said the band is the best WLS choice if you want to get pregnant because it's the only one where you can interupt the WL but still have the tool there when you're ready.
While this will probably delay your desired WL for a while you can still continue a healthy diet while pregnant and keep working on the band eating habits. With your new eating skills and having the band, (even if it's not filled), you hopefully won't gain more weight than necessary to have a healthy pregnancy.
Congratulations!

Your post made me smile. Pregnancy tends to bring out the fear in all of us...panic mode kicks in so quickly. You've already got some great advice and thoughts here, so just let me say congratulations on such happy news! Be sure to keep us posted as the pregnancy continues and then of course post pics when the happy day of delivery arrives. God bless!

I got pregnant 9 months post op. I did not get an unfill bc I was able to eat what I needed. Pregnancy only requires an additional 300 calories a day, you can get that so easy in protein.
I had a very healthy pregnancy and a beautiful baby boy who just started Kindergarten this week!

Hello there,
I was 6 months post op & down 60 lbs when we discovered I was pregnant. It was such an amazing thing, since we had to do fertility with our first child. I was kinda down about putting the weightloss on hold, but remembered that that was one of the main reasons for having the surgery.
Since i threw up ALOT I had my band unfilled to help avoid slippage. Throwing up & having to get it past the band is NO FUN!! The Dr's were not concerned about calorie intake, etc. it was just the throwing up thing.
I pray that you (unlike myself) does not loose focus. I stopped exercising & slowly let food take over my life. I gave birth to my daughter 15 mons. ago & just finally decided to get fills again. I did not want to get the fills until my mind was in the game. I am now getting back on track & am 20 lbs heavier than when I got pregnant but still 40 lbs. less than when i started this journey.
Everything is Okay & major congrats...kids are amazing!!

I was banded in May of 2008, lost 120 pounds and got pregnant in September of 2010. My doctor suggested an unfill so that the baby could get all the necessary nutrients. I gained 90 pounds back. After the baby was born I lost 20. I just got a fill again last week and am back on the wagon to lose the 70 pounds I gained + the 30 I still needed to lose before becoming pregnant. It sucks that all my hard work was undone, and that I'm starting over again but I have a beautiful, healthy baby girl, and the fact that I've lost the weight once reassures me that I can do it again. In retrospect, I probably would not have gotten an unfill. I may have had the band loosened some, but not all the way. The beauty of having the lap band is that it IS adjustable. You can start up your weight loss again after baby is born! Your baby will be just fine. No need to panic. Good luck and congratulations to you!
