Anyone revise to VSG?

Julia, I had no reflux with my band until my slips, but I did wake up from my revision (.band out and sleeve done all in one surgery) which is pretty common, especially as they are making the sleeves smaller. But it could also be from all the damage the band did yo my esophagus. My revision surgeon was not my original band surgeon who was tops in his field at banding, but not in sleeves and definitely not at revisions, so I switched.

My revision surgeon said that I had major esophageal dysmotility due to all the damage done to it by the band. He said he feels the esophagus is not meant to have such a heavy piece of equipment squeezing our stomachs and essentially our esophagus's and it seems to cause major damage, which is why it really isn't "reversible" like all the docs keep pushing.

So for the last 6 months I take Prilosex twice a day in hopes that it will not only keep the reflux at bay (it does 95% of the time), but that it will help heal my esophagus. I go see a GI doc next month to do an Upper GI and possibly an endoscopy and we will see how
it is doing.

If you have reflux with "good" restriction" you are either too tight or there may be a problem. The next time that happens, before the doctor removes any fluid, make them do an Upper GI to make sure there is no slip. Or if you're concerned, don't wait, demand one now.

How long fdid it take to reach your goal? What kind of excercises do you do if you don't mind me asking?

Lucy, I went from 220 when I was sleeved down to 155 in 6 month with the sleeve. I would like to get down to 140 in the next 3-4 month but who knows if thats realistic. But i am going to give it my best.

And its not the most popular answer, but I don't exercise although I do plan on working out with weights with a trainer now that my kids are in college. I have pretty bad sagging skin, which is from 25 years of bouncing 100 pounds up and down. I don't think plastic surgery is in my future so if strength training can tone my arms and thighs just a little I will be ok. At 45 I'm not sure it will.

VSG is wonderful. I would revise to it if I could afford to. Just wanted to let you know that if you want to revise, you might want to do it quickly b/c many insurance companies have started a "one WLS per lifetime" stipulation. So many bandsters are getting screwed out of getting an effective WLS b/c of this. If you insurance company has not started this, they could at any time, so if you want to revise...........do it quickly!
