Hi Maria,

I do thank you for your insight on this.  I have already decided long ago that I will absolutely not alter my anatomy to lose the weight.

I will continue to weigh (no pun intended) the pros and cons as well as reading the experiences on the various forums.  I will also raise all my concerns to the professionals.

thank you, Jim

Jim the band WILL alter your anatomy. Ask anyone that has had their band removed and they can tell you what their Dr. has stated about adhesions, scar tissue, maybe even erosion or PERMANENT esophageal problems as a result of the band. Also keep in mind that many ppl with the band will NOT lose weight. It is a crap shoot. The band just does NOT work for some!

When your raising your concers with the professionals, one thing I would like for you to ask them is if all patients reach restriction as advertised. I have found that it seems the majority of Drs. do NOT inform their patients BEFORE surgery that so many patients never reach restriction, and after all...........that is why we get the band, right???

That being said..........if you do get the band I certainly hope you are one of the LUCKY ones!!! Btw....... you might chat with Bette on this forum. I believe she is from your area.

Good luck!

Damn I deleted this post by mistake....now I can't remember everything I originally wrote...

Anyway I know I said thank you all for the great advice.  I did call Cigna today and got some good information and was sent policies in pdf form.  They do cover all my prequisite visits and will cover fills and such.  I just need to get over the initial hurdle of approval which will include a 6 month Dr. monitored diet.  No big deal I have nothing but time anyways so I might as well drop what I can in the mean time.

thank you all.

Good Luck Jim! I wish you much success! I'm going to get this bandwagon book. Sounds like it would be good for me.

Hey,

I'm new as well and I'm going to buy Jeans book too, yes if the Ins covers the WLS from what they have told me they should cover your other apt as well... I have a HMO and I just have to get a referral to see the others and that would fall under specialty doc a higher co-pay but they should cover them.  I have done alot of research and have posted many question on here....Some will say its the best thing and they would do it again and others say they would never, never do it again b/c they have had problems one after another.  I guess its a personal choice and a leap of Faith.
Good Luck to you and keep me posted maybe we can be Lap Band Buddies!
