Throwing up and not sure what to do
Yesterday (Tuesday) at about 2pm, i had some chicken for lunch that got stuck. I was able to get that up with minimal difficulty. Throughout the rest of the day, I tried cottage cheese, protein shake, and water, but they all kept coming up throughou that day and all night. By morning, I was able to get a sip of water down at a time, but with each sip, it felt like someone put a brick in my stomach. This morning about 9 am, I headed to the ER. I got a liter of fluids and by the time I left I was able to take sips of water. However, it went down slowly. Kinda like when you have a water jug that also has air in it and the bubbles work their way to the top, that is what it felt like to drink sips of water. Since I was up all night, I laid down for an hour when I got home and woke up with water in my mouth that had come back up. The ER I went to wasn't the one that my surgeon is at, cause my surgeon is 2 hours away. Since yesterday morning I have lost 2.5 pounds and that is after the fluids also, so it is actually more than 2.5 pounds.
I had an EGD done about 6 weeks ago, and the band was fine and wide open, but I do have mild esophageal dilation. The surgeon said that there was not much to be done except a revision, but insurance keeps denying it. Wear are still trying to get it covered. I also have pain between my shoulder blades. Not sure what to think. Any help is appreciate.

You need to call your surgeon immediately and make the 2 hour trip. You are likely really swollen from your stuck experience. ALWAYS, ALWAYS go on liquids for 24 hours after you've been stuck. The swelling shuts things off completely and if you keep trying to eat, (even soft foods), it may make it worse.
The ER should have taken fluid out of your band but probably don't know how to do it, (most don't).
Please, go get some fluid out of your band. Even a small unfill with make a huge difference. Trust me on this...It's really important.
Take care and keep us posted.

Some people cannot eat chicken period! Small sips of warm liquids for 48 hours should help. I need to always keep in mind with solid meats, chicken, steak etc that I must take small bites and chew forever to make sure it is totally mushie! Good luck to you!

Band removed and feeling alive with energy!
I normally don't have trouble with chicken. I have had trouble with reheated salmon a couple of times and ended up having an EGD for a food bolus from reheated salmon. Since then I have been very careful about chewing and all. I am afraid to fall asleep cause when i do I seem to wake up to vomit in the back of my throat and then panic from it. I have been awake since tuesday at 0900 except for 20-30 minutes a couple of times since then. I was hoping the water sips would help. That is all I have had since last evening is water. I am down 5 pounds this evening from water weight alone.

Sipping hot liquids seems to open things up for many people. The weight you have lost in the past couple of days probably won't stay off, darn it. Often once you are able to eat again it will regulate. In the meantime try sleeping with your head elevated or on your side. Semi reclining is sometimes helpful. Just stick with liquids until this has resolved.
Good luck, Sue
