Feeling like a failure
I'm so glad I found this thread....I thought I was the only one and am feeling like a total failure lately. I have been stuck at the same wirght for about 8 months now...down 50 pounds with another 80 to go.
My band is either too tight or not giving me any restriction so I have found myself slipping into the old habits of snacking plus when the band is tight I eat sliders so that I don't get " a stick"( hate those)
Thanks for the explanations here!

Just wanted to add myself to the list of those who have experienced this problem...it is not rare. I was either so tight I could barely drink water at times or wide open and able to eat everything under the sun.
I even had my fills done under fluoro and had a million adjustments trying to find the sweet spot...but wasn't successful in the end.
Best of luck,
Lindsey

Doctors need to start being more forthcoming, in my opinion. To tell a patient that they're an anomoly is damaging and wrong. The band is notorious for either being way too tight or way too loose. It's incredibly hard to find that Happy Medium.
My thought is that doctors don't want to admit to this because the band is a very good money making procedure. If the patient blames themselves, they're less likely to find fault with the device or the medical professional. I mean, after all, doctors are supposed to know the statistics and the facts behind the surgeries and we're just laypeople. BUT, if you are proactive with matters of your own health, you'll take it upon yourself to research as much as you can. And only then do you find the truth. My initial surgeon lied through his teeth straight to my face. If I hadn't been my own advocate, I wouldn't be alive today.

~Because of various reason, which I take the blame for, 35 pounds have crept back.~
No do NOT take the blame for this! You do NOT have restriction hun. W/o restriction it is just like trying to lose weight BEFORE having WLS! You have no "tool" to help you. I personally had 16 fills in less than 15 mos. and never had adequate restriction.
~My doctor says this is very rare~
Your Dr. LIED to you! This is NOT true and if he has been working with bandsters for even just a few months, this would be apparent to him. There are thousands more like us. Please join the OH failed band group and the Facebook failed lap-band and Realize band group!
I would also suggest you change Drs. immediately! First of all he has lied to you about this being rare, and second of all he is refusing to give you a fill claiming your "imagining" that you are hungry and don't have restriction! B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please get a competent bariatric surgeon! I would also suggest you do a review of your Dr. on OH so others that are researching WLS can see what he is really like and would choose a different Dr.
