Banding? Would you do it again?

I'll be 4 years out tomorrow. Initial consult I weighed 365, day of surgery 347. I now sit at around 292. As a self pay I will hopefully have this band paid off by the end of this year and can start saving for a surgery that might get me to a healthy weight. In these four years I had a 2nd surgery for a flipped port, have had an upper GI, and more unsuccessful attempts at filling my port, plus several unfills as my body has begun to form excessive scar tissue and I unexpectedly end up too tight.
Nope, couldn't pay me to go through this experience again.
Michelle I am so sorry that your 4 yr. aniversary will be so sad for you! I am almost 2 years out now. I remember when I got banded and I was so excited about the band and how it would change my life. I was naive' enough to believe Allergan's advertising about the Lap-Band. When I got my band I thought about where I would be in the next year and how exciting that would be.
Last Nov. I posted on OH about my 1 year "bandiversary". I was devestated. I cried and cried that day! To have all my hopes and dreams crushed they way they were by the CRAP BAND after being morbidly obese for so many years was almost too much to bear. This Nov. will be another cruel reminder of all the time and money I wasted on this PIECE OF ****! :-(

Thank you Maria, but I try not to dwell on the disappointment. It does rear its head on my surgery anniversary date and when I mail those checks off paying the original surgery off.I just hate it that your still paying for your band! :-( It's like your still living up to your end of the agreement, but the band never did.
I pray that one day soon you will be able to get your revision!!! Hugs!
The band is the only one I would get done ., and if something happens and this band has to come out then I will not have another WLS done . I hope during this process of losing weight that I am also learning and changing my eating habits for the better . I change every day with my eating habits. Yes , I still have my bad days and I will have my bad weeks of food, but the way I look at it the good out ways the bad . Even when I mess up on food, it still is 100% better then what I would have done if I hadn't had the band.
It dont matter what WLS you have , if you are not 100% committed to change your eating habits, start to exercise then the odds of failing are pretty high.
I know people that has lost weight with gastric , the band , and the sleeve., on the other hand I know alot of people that has failed at each of them surgeries also from abusing the surgery and not following the rules which was given to them .
Which ever way you want to go just make sure you have to change your eating habits because none of these surgeries stop you from eating , if you are hell bound to eat that food then nothing will stop you from eating it .
I have lost 63 pounds, and over 30 inch's since my surgery some months its extremely slow and then other months I drop a quick 10 pounds. I have not lost anything for six weeks, but let me make this clear it has been all my fault !!. I got lazy in my exercise, I started to eat foods that I have stayed away from since my surgery . I have nobody to blame but myself.I have to hold myself accountable for my weight loss stall .
Good luck

Dear Steelerfan1,
I absolutely agree with you! At first I tried the band without exercise and eating the right food. Eating late at night= coughing, acid reflux and pure misery, so, I don't eat late at night! I am now fully committed to exercise and different food choices and now I can see the results. Congrats to your weight loss success as well!
