dont know whats wrong
Hi everyone hoping someone can give me some insight. This afternoon we went and had chinese for lunch. I had asmall plate of cooked veggies and chicken.I took one bite and chewed very wellafter a few minutes I started with the sliming and kept it up for almost 2 hrs non stop. Now even when I try to take a sip of hot tea or anything else with in minutes its coming back up. Im not throwing up its just coming back up on its own. My throat is so irratated that it is driving me nuts.
Although this isnt the first time that this has happened it is the worst.I have had problems for the last two months and usually end up sliming at least once a day. Very frustrating to be following the rules and have this happen constantly. I had fluid taken out a month ago thinking that this was my problem they did it under flora and said my band looked ok. So what is causing this any ideas?
one other thing I have had problems with my throat since I woke up from my surgery. They told me it was probably irratation from the surgery and would go away it hasnt. It still hurts to swallow and it always feels like something is caught there when I swallow.
I have only lost 38pds. since the surgery but Im ok with that. My family Dr. says he is ok with that too because Im losing. but Im so frustrated that I could just cry over all of this. Sorry such a long post just need to get it out. Thanks in advance for listening

Go to dr. I am not sure why your throat should still hurt. While your throat or espphogus is irritated you may need to wait it out. I have no advise just an ear.
By the way the thing about this band is one day a certain food maybe ok and the next time it may not. These bands are fickle.
Good luck and keep us updated .

If you are still slimimg on a daily basis you are still too tight unless you aren't taking small enough bites or chewing well enough. You may need another unfill to give your throat and all time to heal. Your bites should be the size of a pencil eraser and chewed until liquidy. You really should contact your doc and let him know how much trouble you are having. Being too tight can slow weight loss or even make you gain if all you can get down are liquid calories.

You need to call your surgeon. You shouldn't be sliming everyday. In 2 years it's only happened 4 times for me. You are too tight no matter what the flouroscopy showed. Sliming isn't normal.
Hope you get to feeling better soon!

There are some things I know I cannot eat. Regardless of how well I chew them - I will always get stuck.
Those things are stemmed or roasted veggies and chicken breasts. It's possible you have some of the food still caught above your band.
Best to let your band rest and not to drink or eat anything for the rest of the night. I'd call in the morning if you're still not able to get fluids down.
Good Luck! I'm sorry you're having such a hard time!

I am 3 years post op and had initially lost 77.5 lbs in 13 months. But then I started having problems with "getting stuck" and started eating what would go down (chips, ice cream, you get the picture). I went for fills, unfills, etc and have been frustrated for a long time - ultimately gained back 40.8 lbs because I just gave up. Then I thought for a while that maybe I was having spasms of my esophagus (sometimes even water would get stuck) but after a while I thought maybe scarring of the esophagus because of reflux (had scarring 15 years ago that was fixed). So in April I went for a complete unfill because I was scheduled for endoscopy (and my routine colonoscopy ugh!). Had to cancel due to some things going on and was not able to get another appointment till August. In the 4 months I was completely unfilled, I still experienced getting stuck (and of course had a party and continued to gain weight). Finally had endoscopy done 2 weeks ago and it ends up that I was right initially - I have spasms of my esophagus caused by reflux (I have been taking Prevacid religiously since surgery). GI Doc upped my Prevacid to twice a day and went for a re-fill a week later. Have been doing really good since then - not getting stuck and I lost 7.2 lbs in a week so far!!!! And when I was unfilled, I hated the full feeling in the lower abdomen - I missed my pouch. I would do this over again in a heart beat!!! Moral of the story, if you do have problems, look for answers, don't just give in and eat what goes down. Be proactive - this can work and I still would choose it over bypass, DS and any other procedure out there!
Thanks everyone for your replies. I called the Dr's. office this morning and told them what was going on. I have an appointment at 2:30 this afternoon. I'm going to ask to have them empty it out and try all over again.Maybe giving my stomach a rest will help. I want you all to know that i do follow my rules with eating. Sometimes I wonder what is left to swallow. LOL .
Thank you so much for the support I really do appreciate it. My husband says that he wishes I would have never had the surgery with all the problems I am having but I always tell him without this I would not have lost what I have. Now I'm wondering if you all are right and me being to tight is why I'm losing so slowly. Will post how I made out when I get home tonight.

I believe you about the rules. Our bands are fickle and some things just don't go down regardless of how we chew them to teeny bits! I can't eat chicken breast ever, so just don't.

Well everyone my visit to Dr. T went well. I'm glad I took everyones advice and called. I now have an empty band and it will stay that way for at least 6 weeks. The Dr said my stomach was quite swollen and he suggested we empty it and let it have a rest.
I must say I feel so much better already. Within an hour I had a bowl of soup and it staid down. For the first time in 2 months I had a meal and didn't have it come back up. I can drink just fine too. Also I am swallowing so much easier now.
So once again I would like to say thank you for telling me to get to to the drs I would have probably waited till my Oct. appt before doing anything. Just so you know you girls and this board rock.
