One of the advantages (maybe disadvantage for my waistline) was that I needed the band emptied for a very difficult pregnancy.  At your age, if you run into a problem later in life, it can be removed or the restriction reduced.  Unfortunately, during that pregnancy and the one next, I gained a lot of my weight back...but now I am HOT on the weight loss trail again--and my band has been there as my tool.  Remember that these surgeries are only tools--used to make the hard work easier---it is not a quick/easy fix and each and every one can be used or abused.
