well i am finally home after surg on aug 29.  a lot more than i signed up for.  i was to get home on the 30th,yea right.  i was in surg 8 1/2 hrs.  once in there he found i had a double hitial hernia which had adheared themselves to my heart and lungs. night 2 post op the nurse came in and woke me asking if i was ok and how i felt, i wanted to slap her but my heart was doing funny things, so the next 3 days were spent in ciu.  now i am on heart meds bid.  OMG!!!  the gas is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  on a bright note everthing went fine with the lapband and i hate lime **** warm jello!!!!!

Well I sure hope you feel better!  Did the Dr. say how long you would have to be on the heart meds :(  I know this might sound like a dumb question but what exactly is a hitial hernia? I've heard of it and I know someone that had surgery in general but never really asked what it is... Is there anyway the docs can do a test or something before hand to see if the patient has one or is it just away with the Lap Band and bammmm there it is?

Did you have any pain at first before to let you know you had it  or something might be there?

Wish you the best... I'm hoping to get Lap Band some time early next year, due to ins process!

Thanks Jennifer

Did your doc not do any pre-op testing, such as EGD, Echo, or a EKG ???? I will pray that you have a fast and great recovery, God bless..

OMG you have been through ^*##!  But you know, in a way you have lapband surgery to thank for finding those hernias before something worse happened because of them.  Keep us posted on your recovery.  Oh yeah, and though it's been almost 8 months since my WLS, I remember the GAS WAS HORRIBLE!  And I'm sure, though I did have 1 small hernia, with what all you had was much worse.  Good Luck!

it is a condition in which a portion of the stomach protrudes upward into the chest, through an opening in the diaphragm.  i had two of them.  i had all the tests and they showed i had one hernia and they had started adhered themselves to my lungs and heart.  don't know how long will be on heart meds.  i have an following up appt in a couple weeks.  Surg said they were the worst he had ever seen.  i think the lap band alone would have been a breeze
