Shout out to Jean M...

Just got home from the doctor and I was right, there was something wrong with my band... I would like to thank Jean M. for all her insight on what she thought was the problem instead of just assuming that I am doing something wrong and that I am expecting too much from my band. I have a leak in my port tubing and when I get a fill it just leaks out before it can reach the band so I only had just a few CC's in my band instead of the 8.8cc's I was told that I had when he checked it today. To be honest I feel vindicated because instead of getting support I feel that some people were judgmental right off the bat and assumed that it was me doing something wrong instead of a malfunction with the band. I think we know our bodies well enough to be able to tell if its us or something else, I will never second guess myself again and always trust my instincts. I am waiting for an approval to go back and get the tubing fixed. Now maybe I can find out what the band acually is supposed to feel like when its working properly.

From personal experience, I can tell you tubing repair surgery is a doddle! Mine was done about a year ago, the doc refilled me during surgery and my restriction was back immediately. No problems since.

Best wishes, Kate

Yes, a doddle is good! Easy, no problems, straightforward, not stressful!

I am so glad you got that figured out. As patients we have to be very persistent and assertive (and docs aren't always OK with that) to get the care we need.

I hope you get the approval for the tubing replacement fast so you can get back in the game fast!

Jean

Thanks Jean for all your help. He did exacly what you said he would do, he checked the fluid level then tested me for a leak. I really appreciated your input ahead of time, I went into the appointment knowing what to ask and look for. Didnt you write a book on the lap band? If so I want to buy it...

Oh, Kate  thank you for posting about your tubing replacement, I am a little nervous but hopeful about it, nervous because I have to go under again, (he said the surgery should only take 20 minutes) but hopeful that finally I can benifit from the band... How was your recovery when you got home? Did you go home right afterwords? I was told they would do the surgery, fill and send me home that same day? Were you in any pain?
