I went to the store and got some White Fi****s really the only kind I like that dont have a strong fishy taste to it and it taste alot like Long John Silver does.

I have no dang clue on how to fix this fish that will make it taste good lol.  I fried some the other day with  coating for the family and have to admit it was dang good, but I know I cant eat it that way all the time just as a treat once in awhile .  That was the first time I ever cooked fish in my life .

Anybody got some great recipes for me to try out :o) . I'm getting tired of chicken all the time so I need to add some fish into my diet .

My favourite way to cook fish like this is to simply pan fry it in butter. You only need about 2 tsp of butter and the fish usually doesn't absorb it all so it doesn't add too many calories. Let the butter melt in the pan first on a med-high heat until it starts to turn caramel in color, then add the fish.  Do NOT use margarine. You could try butter flavoured PAM or another non-stick spray, but the little bit of butter really enhances the fish flavor in a non-fishy way (if that makes sense). Depending on the thickness it only needs 3-4 minutes each side - once it flakes easily it is cooked.

Another way to cook it is to poach it in milk. For this add about 1-2 cups of milk to a baking dish until it just covers the fish, sprinkle salt and pepper on top of the fish and poach in the oven for about 20 minutes.  This was the way my Mom always cooked it.

Finally, you can make fish cakes with it. Poach it as above and then break it up. Combine with some mashed pototates, and peppers, onions and celery (cut up small and sauteed until tender). Form into patties and then pan fry, bake or grill until warmed through.

Other fish that are similar are tilapia and sole - they are also pretty non fishy tasting.  Enjoy!

Poach it, various ways, but all require something for moisture and then season

So wrap in foil with slice lemon, dust seasoning, close foil, bake in oven.

On plate, as above but add tablepoon milk, cover and microwave.

Steam by placing over water on rack in microwave.

Panfry using olive oil spray to moisten frying pan.

But in fact if I quite often buy ready battered frozen fish. The fillets I get are only 280 cals each if oven baked. Crispy, tasty batter! I do that rather than making my own batter as if I made iti myself, I would not be able to work out caloriesI

Forgot, one of my very favourites! Can you eat rice?

Kedgeree, an Anglo-Indian breakfast dish but I make as a main meal.

Get smoked fish ( in the UK we use smoked haddock). poach in milk. Break into chunks.

Hard boil some eggs.

Put rice in large pan or wok, fry gently in small amount oil or butter. When starts to change colour, add boiling chicken stock, add in curry powder to taste ( not supposed to be too spicy, just mild), boil, topping up if necessary, should absorb all liquid but .remain moist.

Add in chopped eggs, fish, fresh chopped herbs, salt, black pepper.

Great meal and you just give yourself more chunks and less rice!

white fish smoked makes a great salad (think egg/chicken) - OMG it's my favorite @ the jewish deli in town.    i'm afraid to make it, because their's is so good.

Seasoning can add quite a bit of flavor and no calories, too.  I usually pan fry my fish (in butter like mentioned before).  I have a citrus grill seasoning that I love to put on.  I've used garlic powder.  My kids and husband like to throw on some chili peppers for some heat.  Sometimes I sprinkle just a few bread crumbs on...adds very few calories or carbs but gives it a little body.  I LOVE white fish!  Just had some for lunch a little bit ago.

thank you ladies so much for all the great tips and Kate I can eat rice :o)   I am going to try  these this week and give myself a break from chicken lol.

I think that is why I have been struggling so bad the last month I am in a rut with food and I'm so bored with what I have been eating I have been straying off course and eating to many of my bad girl foods and I'm paying the price for that on the scales time to regroup and get serious again :o)

I cant wait till Wednesday when I can try these out lol.

I like catfish a lot. The publix by me has flavored catfish sometimes- lemon pepper and cajun. I just fry it up in a pan with olive oil spray. If they don't have it, I get plain catfish and put old bay on it, and fry it up in a pan.
I have also discovered some frozen fish. Sunkist makes some fish with a little sauce- still low fat and low carb. You just cook it in the microwave. I also like Gorton's grilled fish- they have tilapia and salmon. Again, low in fat and low in carbs. Those you bake in the oven for about 20 minutes. That's great you are looking to eat more fi**** is so good for you.

Thanks VLP. I saw at Krogers today fresh catfish and I wasnt sure about it lol. If it has a ounce of a strong fishy taste then yuck lol. But next time I go into Krogers with some extra money I will pick one up and try it .

I did try Salmon one time and it was just so strong for me I just couldnt get past the taste of it.

I love Crab, lobster and shrimp .I wish those wasnt so expensive I could eat that three or four times  a week .  I do buy the frozen shrimp just does not have the taste as fresh shrimp does .

try Oprah's Unfried Catfish.  It should work for whitefish too.

Or mix ground or slivered almonds (flavored are nice, but not necessary) 1/2 & 1/2 with panko.  moisten the fish just a little with water or egg white and pat the almond/panko mix on top and bake.
