Anyone found any good solutions for preventing hairloss and regrowth??? Rogaine?  I started rogaine couple of weeks ago but will take months before I get results.

Hi Jen,

I had surgery a month before you.  I just want to say your weight loss is amazing.  What did you do to lose all the weight?  I have been stuck at the same up three down three pounds.  I have only lost like 35 pounds.  I do exercise.  I never had hair loss.

                                                                                   Thank you,

                                                                                     Lori

I think I just got lucky....I followed the diet in the beginning until I was able to eat. Then slowly over time I learned what I could and couldn't eat and how much. Honestly, I eat whatever I want. Fattening or not. I figured a strict diet for the rest of my life was not realistic considering I have cravings and little control. So I decided if I wanted it I would eat it. I do have control now and I choose healthier things most of the time because I feel better but if I want it I eat it. I lost 110 in the first year then the rest kept coming off, losing 152lbs all together.  I didn't get all my protein like I was suppose to so thats why my hair thinned a little. I did not and still do not exercise...however after I recover from this tummy tuck and thigh lift I'm going to start :-) I eat out of a coffee cup most of the time and depending on what it is I fill the cup half way or 3/4. Thats all I eat at a time. Not saying the way I do it is best for everyone but it works for me...

IMHO don't waste your money on vitamins, rogain et.... I had some hairloss and went to the dermatologist. Much to my relief he assured me I wouldn't go bald. He said it's from the shock to your body of rapid weight loss. It stopped on it's own after about 4 months. I was lucky to have a thick head of hair to start out with. Try not to worry!

I used to have long thick hair :-/ It's been 2 years and I was told long ago that around a year or so it would start coming back in. Seems like I'm still losing too much and I do take all the vitamins I'm supposed to.  Maybe just not enough protein.

I'm 4 months out and lost about 50 punds in that time.  I started to have hair loss also- hate!!  I have been geting in the protein, the botin, multi-vitamins everything and it is still happening.  I went to the dermatologist and he said it is a shock to my body losing weight so quickly (shock to my brain too!), anyhow he said it can take 18 months before it gets better.  He said he could do a biopsy, but didn't think there was any other program but the shock to my body.  He did a test on me where he pulled out a few hairs....ouch....but said it was "normal."  He said make sure you are taking a multi-vitamin, but nothing will really help....it just has to resolve itself.  :-(

Google telogen effluvium. Temporary hair loss resulting from trauma such as anaesthetic or rapid weight loss. The latter doesn't really apply to bandsters, it is more for RNY and DS who often lose enormous amounts very fast.

The bad news, if you get it you get it! Eating protein but is not likely to be much help either.

The good news, the damage to the hair follicles happenec when you had the op. By the time hair loss start, usually about three nonths afterwards, regrowth has already started.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

If you are 2 years out you should be completely over any hair loss from the surgery. I would suggest you see your doc and get some labs done to see if you have a vitamin deficiency. Be the way about all rogaine does is make your hair all sticky, never did a thing when I tried it (long before WLS).

Had all labs done several weeks ago. 12 tubes of  blood and all normal...I never had hairloss either before surgery. So its obviously weightloss related. Guess my body is just in shock or something. Ya rogaine is messy :-/
