Hello,

I am in the process of jumping through the insurance hoops and I am expecting a surgery date around the beginning to Mid- November.  My question is how long did you take to recover enough to go back to work?  I know everyone is different, but I was going to try to have the surgery on a Wed or Thu and go back the next monday if I am feeling OK.  Is that a feasible goal?   I am just curious as to what I can expect so I can just do it using sick time and vacation versus going out on leave and I am trying to see how much vacation I need to "hold back".

Another quick question totally unrelated, but what is a REALIZE band?  Is it just a "brand name" gastric band?

Thanks

hi! i was "banded" 8/22/11 i thought i would be back to work in a week. Not sure what u have to do at work but as for me i supervise Case Managers.  Not to hard on body. I tried getting out and running errands day before yesterday. that would be 5 days post -op. Boy was I wrong abt going back to work Mon. (7 days post) I think I will take another week off. Thinking 2 weeks should do it.

When I went into the heat i got real nauseated and my incissions began aching. i began to cramp. i think i got over heated.  Sooooo i will say for me 2 weeks. hope that helps.  oh by the way i never took to pain meds.  never really needed to.

Thank you both for your responses.  As far as a job goes I am inside and spend most of my day sitting in front of a computer.  I also have the ability to work from home.  But from your replies it looks like I will need to take at least a week if not two before going back to work so I may just need to take some leave.   I really thank you for your answers and I am a bit jealous of both of you for already being done with the surgery.   I can't wait until I am also a bandit.  Have a wonderful evening.

I was banded Wednesday 8/17 and went back to work the following Monday.  I work a desk job so didn't think it would be too bad.  I made it about 5 hours and went home.  Not because I was sore.  I was just so tired.  After that one day I was fine and worked my regular schedule.  Today is day 12 and I feel wonderful!

I am a nurse and work 12 hours shifts. I only took off a week and did great....for me it was the easiest surgery I have ever had...day 2 was the worst for me b/c of the gas not b/c of pain so I do recommend pain meds for 2-3 days...I had surgery on Tues and was driving on Friday....You will do fine good luck!
