Feeling restriction only first half of day...?
Okay, so I had surgery a little over two weeks ago, so I'm obviously not eating much, and what I am eating is either mush or very soft. I know some people feel some restriction right away, and others don't. I have been feeling some restriction, but only during the first half of the day. In the evenings, I feel little to no restriction. I can eat a tiny bit for breakfast and lunch and feel full for hours. But I can eat a bigger supper and not feel very full at all. So there's a huge temptation to snack or graze thru the evening. So...I'm wondering if anyone else has felt the same. I'd like to feel more restriction in the evening....that's the worst time to eat. But I'm concerned that when it comes to getting filled, I'm gonna be too tight for the first half of the day. Any thoughts or suggestions? (I go in for my post-op visit next week, so yes, I will talk to my doc about this, but I just wondered if any vets out there had felt the same or had any ideas.)

Hi. I've had my band for over a year and have lost about 120 pounds. I am definitely tighter in the mornings. Sometimes in the mornings, I even have trouble swallowing my medicine. I have to sip the water very slowly in the morning, otherwise it pools up there and often just splashes out. :)
I have heard it's pretty common to feel tighter in the morning. I am more careful about what I eat in the mornings. I didn't have restriction until about nine months out, and so I didn't notice this problem until after that. But it's not a problem any more just because I know about it and I can work around it. I have my band adjusted to where I have restriction in the evenings and know that I just have to be extra careful in the morning. Hope that helps!

I last ate breakfast over 5 years ago! Breakfast for me is a large skinny latte. I can eat by mid morning.
Really common. Never been a big deal for me.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
6 months out and I'm tighter in the morning. I drink my coffee first and then have my breakfast (usually scrambled eggs w. a slice of Laughing Cow cheese and some turkey lunch meat) around 9:30 or 10am. I work from home so eating a little later is easy for me.
I'm like you though, hungrier in the evenings and I have to give myself a pep talk some nights or just walk upstairs and go to bed early. I keep 100 calorie packs on hand, turkey jerky, lite pop corn and some other snacks that I won't go over board on. For me being prepared is always best!

Hey Jodi -- as you have seen from others, this is not uncommon.
My doc says that they think that maybe it has to do with the way we retain fluid overnight -- but no one knows for sure.
There are so many factors -- here is what I know is true for me:
Different times of the day, the rings on my fingers are tighter than others.
Humidity, temperature, hydration, amount of salt I ate today or yesterday, hormones -- all seem to influence how my body swells or retains fluid.
So, I figure that the band around my stomach is the same way -- and at certain times of the day or month, I may be tighter than other times.
The thing I have learned is to 'respect the band' --- she can be a fickle ***** --- and she always wins
Listen to your body -- and learn to recognize the little signals you get about being 'satisfied' or tight and feed/hydrate yourself according to those signals and you will do well!

that happened to me until I really hit a good fill spot. Even now, I have more restriction in the morning & usually have a protein drink or nibble at yogurt for breakfast. As you get fills and move into the right area for your band (for most of us, it takes a few months), you'll start feeling more restriction in the evenings as well.
No worries. you are normal for a postop bandster. The people with a lot of restriction right off the bat and keep that restriction for a few months are really lucky. I've also heard they're not real common. Lisa O, Tiffani, Jean, & Bette were on me right away early on to not compare myself with other bandsters. So I want to pass that advice on to you. It's very hard to practice, but as you travel through this journey, please try to keep it in mind.
Take care!
