I got my lapband placed on September 22.2009 and next month will make exactly 2 years and i haven't lost a pound:( i havent seen my  surgeon since last September and he don't even make appointments to follow up with me..I made an appointment but his office never got back with me..so anyway i plan on trying again and i want him to REMOVE my lapband and i want gastric bypass because it seem like a lot of people found the gastric bypass successful..but i want to know would i have to go through the 9 months of orientation again for gastric bypass surgery? I already know everything about it..so i dont see the point of starting over..but obviously the band just isnt for me it havent helped at all its an total fail..and i dont have no saline in the port and i constantly vomit but still don't lose weight? i dont understand but i want to talk to my surgeon abt gastric bypass..any input on if i will have to attend 9 months of orientation or not?

I'm sorry you are going thru this.  I just had my band removed and went bypass 3 weeks ago.  I am very happy with the decision.

I didn't have to do ALL the tests done like the first time around, just some tests, and I have to do 3 months of nutrition classes instead of the manadatory 1 year since I already knew some things from my 1st WLS.

Good luck.  I'm sure your surgeon will be understanding.  My surgeon was very very understanding and very supportive.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Yes I had the gastric bypass, 3 weeks ago.

I lost about 70 lbs with the band but then I started having problems, constant regurguations, stopped losing weight after 7 months and haven't lost anymore and started regaining.

I'm trying to understand. Have you had any fills in your band? Unless you have begun the fill process you haven't given your band the chance to work as designed.

Well the gastric bypass will only be a tool as well. Initially you will lose weight due to the malabsorption, but to maintain the loss you will have to make changes.

TWIST I hear of bypass patients getting stuck as well.

Sorry your have such a difficult time with the band! We all need to keep in mind that all weight loss surgery no matter what it is, is a TOOL!  If you are not mentally ready to loss the weight, it will not happen, well in the beginning it will.  Weight loss surgery is not a quick fix.  It's a tool to assist you in your journey of making a life long change and commitment that takes hard work. . Keep in mind, the surgery will not change eating habits. It will not make you stop grazing, it will not make you commit to an excise routine, it will not make you stop eating between meals, it will not make you stop eating 4 hours before you go to bed, it will not make you stop eating cake, candy, ice cream, chips and all the other bad stuff we are able to eat after the surgery, and it most definitely will not change how we look at food and how we crave it!  All of this is up to self with the assistant of the tool.

That's when the mental aspect comes in to play.  we need to really take a long look at our self and say are we truly committed to these surgeries.  Yes they do work and yes they do fail some of us but, we fail them by still have the mind set that got us in this weigh situation in the first place!  I believe that one need to take a long look at self and make a commitment to these surgeries and realize that they are a tool, there to assist  in the weight loss journey.  Should I say the band failed me when it slipped 2 years ago? No! It was my fault because I did not follow the band rules.  Should I say why the hell can't I loss or not losing any weight when in fact I just sat here typing and ate five cookies? hummmm and wonder why the hell I can not loss these last 20lbs?

I am 4 years out  two out of a slip of my band that was repaired and have with hard work have lost 92lbs. I work my tool. I exercise 6 to 7 days a week and for the most part eat right.  I pay close attention to my band when I'm eating, eat slow and know when to push away.  I have learn how to manipulate my band it easy to do.  But do I NO....going from a size 20 to a size 6/8 taste way sweeter. Do surgery fail us absolutely with out a doubt they do in some cases but we need to keep in mind once again they are a tool their to assist us in our weight loss journey.  Good luck with  your surgery!
