Banded
Hey All...
So, im banded! Still in the hospital (they have wifi
) but i am ready to go!!! Im NPO so i havent eaten or drank anything in 2 days! Only ice chips if i need it... But, i havent felt hungry since after my surgery!!! Lots of pressure in my abodomen but per the advice of other posts walking around really helps. (i refuse to take anymore pain medication since it makes my mouth dry and my throat hurt) Every burps helps me feel a litl better and im despising having to lay in bed...The nurses are surprised i am so determined and strong! Kinda excited to see what come from all this and so my journey officially begins...

Congrats that you're home!!! 42 days till real food?? As in including before and during surgery?? I was ok to eat week 3. But, what I suggest for any soft mushy food is applesauce, yogurt(greek), mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potato, butternut squash(if you like it), sugar free jello/pudding. Don't laugh-but baby food, the fruits and desserts are decent and very mild to digest. Only thing with mushy foods is to watch your sugar intake. Oatmeal is decent or cream of wheat-just don't add all the goodies to it-I used agave nectar for a sweetener, though I've been told stevia is amazing and no after taste. Lots of water-which I didn't do as I was drinkining protein shakes like crazy. Bad news is pain meds and anesthesia has a tendency to wreak havoc on your bowels. So some dulcolax daily with lots of water and such until you get over that hurdle-hopefully you'll be lucky enough to bypass that. Sugar free popsicles or pudding pops were a nice treat-but some people have had issues with really cold/hot liquids-so test it a bit. Jamba juice protein smoothie-amazing!!! with the protein boost added. Very filling and delicious and more like a mushy food than a solid to me. i was NOT a fan of any food that I could eat pureed. i don't like pureed meat, veggies, etc...blech!!! My husband made an amazing beef noodle soup, chicken noodle soup, french onion soup(I hate soup) and I lived on that for weeks-just to change things up a bit. A I progressed I eat the veggies that were in the soup and had no issues. I stayed away from the cheese on the french onion but ate the crouton in the soup(he used a crusty whole wheat baguette). Felt very satisfying to finally chew something and not drink something or have it slide down my throat. GOOD LUCK!!! you're gonna do great!!!
Ur on a post surgery high!! Same with me after surgery..hated laying in bed....keep going with it..and even though you'll feel better..force yourself to rest. And absolutely do not weigh yourself everyday!!! I did..and it drove me nuts! Enjoy ur beautiful 2nd chance at life. And when u feel emotional. And eventually you will...its okay. U will get through and u will succeed. Cheers!
