I have been thowing the idea around for awhile..I should have had one before Lap Band.. With the birth of 4 kids (75 lbs. with the first, 45 with the 2nd., 30 with the fourth and 25 with the 4th) never lost much of it..I weighted 120 lbs when I was preg. with my first) now still hovering around 200.I could have used it back when.. I haven't lost alot of weight but, my lower stomache does hang alot. It starts at the hips and goes all the way to the other side..I hate it..My daughter works for a plastic surgeon and she told me to come in for a consult.. I am scared..She had one done 4 yrs. ago and I saw what she went thru (nothing bad but, it was ugly to see, draining tubes and all).. I know with every surgery I had it would be a piece of cake.. I do have some issues with being sore under the (flabby flap) lol. I take care of it every day so as not to get infection.. I don't have any pics of the soreness.. My daughter tells me most ins. need them to deciede weather to ok the surgery.. I have Medicare and AARP.. But, other then that..Am I to old for a TT? I am 55 yrs. old.. I know if I had one, my clothes would fit better and I wouldn't feel like I had an inner tube attached to me when I sat down...Any ideas or suggestions welcomed. I asked my hubby what he thought and he said what ever I want he is okay with it..I have been on the plastics site and it scares me when I see the pics.....Hugs..."Lucky"

Lucky,

If you feel like you need to have one done and that makes you feel better then I say go for it , age dont matter :o)

Me personally, I dont think I will have one done .  I will be very honest I'm to scared to get one done I heard its very painful and I dont deal with pain very well lol and I'm just plain scared .

Hubby said he would gather up the money for one but if I was in my 20's or 30's I would highly highly consider it but not right now I wouldn't .

Why dont you go in for the consult . Usually those are free and if it does cost some money to see him it dont hurt just to talk to him and ask questions .  You might walk out of the consult and feel heck yes this is what I want, or the other hand you could walk and say oh no thanks this is not for me.

Go talk to him it never  hurts to just listen to him :o)

Good Luck !!!

I don't think 55 is too old for a tummy tuck. I would go ahead and do the consult - if nothing else, you'll have better info on which to base your eventual decision, and you can ask the PS to take pix of the sore area under your panni so you have that documentation when and if you need it.

Well I'm 61 and I would have one tomorrow if i could justify the money! But I am retired, not hard up, but no more regular full pay packets coming in! And I prefer to spend the money on other things like exotic travel.

But I'd love a TT! Go for it!

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Never too old for anything. Check out this story:

If you are able to handle the surgery and are sure this is what you want - I say go for it.

When I read the subject line of this postingm, I thought that it was being written by a 75-year-old.  Heck, no, you're not too old.  I'm almost 57 and if I ever get enough weight off, you can be sure that a tummy tuck, breast work and arm and thigh surgeries are in my future.  If you're willing to put up with the pain and the mess, then go for it.  You'll feel a lot younger when you're healed and you look down at your nice flat stomach.

I am 53 and am contemplating a TT myself.

I had my arms done along with a breast lift last November and I am very pleased with the results.

I have a consult in November (I am hiking into  - and out of --the Grand Canyon in October) to talk with the PS about this.

He uses a technique known as 'Progressive Tension Suturing' which eliminates the need for drains and significantly reduces the healing time.
You should ask about it.

It IS major surgery --- and my one stumbling block now is the thought of having to recover from another surgery ----- I am very active (walking/running about 35 - 50 miles a week) and am not sure that I want to sideline that for the months it could take to recover.

Keep us posted!  You are not too old to feel great about yourself, and to do whatever it takes to make that happen!

I recently saw a news report on a growing trend of people 55+  are getting nipped and tucked more than ever. The surgeon said most people that come in are very health conscious people and are in better shape than the average 35 year old and they do very well in the recovery period.

I'm not 55, but as I have gotten older I have realized that I'm the only person who is in control of my own happiness. I'm doing things for myself and it feels great!!! I had ps and I won't sugar coat it...there is pain involved and like wls, you questioned why you put your body through it in the day or two after wards. However, like wls you know it is well worth it!!! The pain is temp and the benefits are forever!!! Best wishes to you!

I have yet to have a consult, but have visited the websites of a couple of surgeons that I want to interview.. and one of them specifically mentions repositioning the port.

I wouldn't purposely have the port removed.. that would prevent any future adjusting of the band.

You probably want to make sure that any surgeon you chose to work with has experience in working with bariatric patients.  And a really good plastics doc will consult with your bariatric surgeon before working on you.
