Hey Banders!

I've known for quite some time that I have been in a dangerous place falling off the wagon.
I've done well to not have gained more weight than I have.  And because of that, I am so thankful for my tool!

One thing that really stands out to let me know I am in a dangerous place is that I've gotten the crazies! lol (it's been a long time since I"ve felt this way)

You might be familiar.......should I eat this?, should I stay away from that?, low carb?....no, I need carbs?...and on and on.

I do have an appt scheduled with my doctor to discuss this matter, but in the meantime, I need some help with the sugar cravings I'm having.(I'm definitely in to the sugar and junk food)

Thanks for listening and your thoughts.

It's a slippery slope!  Once I let sugar back in, (1 year post op), I stopped losing weight and now struggle with a worse sugar addiction than ever.  The only thing that breaks the cycle for me is going cold turkey.  When I was losing my weight I didn't eat anything with more than 5 g of sugar per serving unless it was a special treat and then never over 15 g per serving.  I used SF pudding, jello and Skinny Cow or WW ice cream treats as my evening snack.
I just started back on this routine because I have gained  some weight this summer.  It's time to "step away from the sugar".  I'll never be one of those that can take one bite and then stop.  For me it's a downward spiral and only 1wk going cold turkey can stop the cravings.

Sugar is a powerful addictive substance for many.  It's just not worth it if it means going back to where I was!

Hang in there!

I'm with you and completely understand where you are coming from. For me, the sugar comes in the impromtu snacks. So I started prepping snack foods and buying the little cheeses. I fought this for a while because they are pricey. But then I started considering how much I was spending on sugary snacks. HA!  Since then, there is always a freezer full of edamame, a cupboard of popcorn kernals and a frig full of homemade hummus. String cheese, laughing cow, babybel rounds...

For me, I had to start putting more effort into planning ahead. Even if I rarely know what I'm eating that day, I have to be sure there are tons of healthy options or I'll dive head first into something I shouldn't be diving in.

Journal, journal, journal! That is the only way I can stsy on track and even then it's hard. Seems like I can eat the same foods and not journal but I gain. So there must be things sneaking in or amounts that vary when I don't journal. Good luck, the carb monster is evil indeed!

Hi Sandra,

I can relate. I'm currently trying to make my way back on the right track. I struggle with summer gain, because we travel a lot in the summers and we eat out. I lost several pounds just to gear up for summer so I would be in a better position. However, the wheels came off a little and I ended up gaining it back plus a couple more. I have to find a way to enjoy vacation food without the gain. UGH!

I'm a sweets junky too. I stash sugar free lifesavers in my desk at work when it hits me. However, I know in order to get the weight back off I must avoid sugar or fake sugar that may trigger sugar binges. I try to replace sugar with natural sugars in fruits instead. I'm like you, when I need to lose I go a little nuts. I tend to get too strict. It's all about keeping that balance.

It always helps me to go back to the basics. Measure my food again, cut out all the mindless eating, and eat with purpose only.

Best wishes to you!!
