Hi Everyone,

Its been 4 months since having surgery and I had my first fill July, I was doing pretty good and lost about 15 lbs since surgery.  All, I'm looking for some help, suggestions feedback.

Since having my first fill (6 cc put in) I don't feel anything, of course I did as it was being filled and I had some liquids to drink. But within 48 hours nothing.

Due to some stress (no excuses here) I've lost my way and have fallen into some bad eathing habits, not seeing the scale go down I'm gaining, but am trying to catch myself.

I spoke with the nurse at my surgeon's office and she advised that many Lap Band patients often times don't really feel "full" or the sensation of the band being full sometimes until their second fill.

Needless to say I'm starting to get discouraged, has anyone experienced the same?  Please let me know.

P.S.-As a sidebar please do not email me and put yourself on blast by saying that the band does not work and that I need to get it removed, sue my surgeon, get involved in a lawsuit etc, etc, etc
Thank You,

Heather

Hello!  I also did not feel much with my first fill.  I had a little restriction, very minor though.  I had a good amount of restriction with the second fill and maintained it until I lost about 20 pounds.  I then began eating big quanitities of food.  Not necessarily bad ones, just larger portions.  In return my weight began moving up a little.   I was then ready for a fill.  I went and got another one and have good restriction again.

After three fills, I do not ever feel full like before surgery.  I am very satisfied though, which is the goal of the band.  I never leave the table feeling like I need to eat more.  I get in my 3-4 oz. of protein and maybe some veggies and do not feel the urge to eat more.   My meals last me 3-4 hours and then I begin getting hungry.  When I was ready for a fill, my meals of meat and veggies would only keep me satisfied for maybe an hour and 1/2.  That was also with eating larger quantities.

From what I understand, some people just require more fills in order to feel restriction.  I wish you all the luck and just keep working hard.  You are doing great!

I think the average is 3 or 4 fills to really feel something.  But you got quite a bit in your first fill so it may not take as many.  I was "average," but my lapband buddy had to have several more.  Truth is we're all different.  We have had basically, the same surgery, but so much of lapband is very individual. I do agree that the new feeling of full is the feeling of satisfied, and I just don't want any more.  I wish you luck!

Wow!!!  Your nurse said it only takes 2 fills.  I took 9.  I know someone that took 3 and another that took 5.  So some may be lucky enough to get it right away others...like me take awhile longer.  She shouldn't tell you things like that and then you will feel discouraged and upset when it doesn't happen after fill# 2.
