Surgery after lap band

I am having surgery next week and am concerned about how it will effect my band.  I don't want it to be punctured by things down my throat.  I don't know if the doctor will do a local or whether I HAVE to have general anesthesia.  Can anyone fill me in on general anesthesia with the band please?

I've had at least a half dozen if not more surgeries since banding and never had any issues or had to have my band emptied. As long as the surgeon is aware you have it there shouldn't be a problem. Any tubes are going to your lungs I believe, no where near your stomach.

I've had two surgeries since lapband 1/28/09 and had my tennis elbow surgery 5/4/2010 and gall bladder removal 7/19/2010.. no problems.  Just be sure the surgeon is aware, though.  I did not even need unfills.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I've had general anesthesia twice since being banded, and no problems.  I think the most important thing is to be aware that anesthesia can cause nausea, and since vomiting can displace your band, you'll need quick access to anti-nausea meds.

Thanks everyone for your helpful responses.  I feel much better about the surgery now.   And Jean, I always have nausea after surgery so I will be sure to mention that also.  Thanks.
